Rookie blueliner
Jacob Guevin was tabbed the Week 16 NCHC Defenseman of the Week today. Guevin tallied five blocks, three shots, a plus-1 rating and an assist on the Mavericks fourth goal on Friday night. Omaha allowed just one goal in 120 minutes of hockey this weekend to cap off a 5-0-1 six-game homestand.
Guevin is coming off of standout season in the USHL where he became just 10th defenseman in league history to record over 100 points. This season with the Mavericks, Guevin has tallied two goals and nine assists for 11 points with 35 shots on net.
Guevin becomes the fifth Omaha skater to win NCHC weekly accolades. He joins forwards
Ray Fust (Week 15) and
Matt Miller (Week 9), blueliner
Jonny Tychonick (Week 9) and netminder
Jake Kucharski (Week 3, 9).
The Mavericks hit the road for the first time in 2023 this weekend when they head to Kalamazoo, Michigan for a two-game series with the No. 9 Western Michigan Broncos.
