Mueller and Randl Named Hobey Baker Memorial Award Nominees

Jan 19, 2023

Sophomore Ty Mueller and Senior Jack Randl have been tabbed as nominees for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award. The list of nominated athletes was released this morning.

A native of Cochrane, Alberta, Mueller is having a career year in his second season as a Maverick forward. In 24 games his rookie campaign, he tallied five goals and eight assists for 13 points. In 22 games this season, Mueller has surpassed or matched all of his stats from last season. He's registered nine goals, 11 assists, 52 shots (41 last season), four power play goals (matches last season) and two game winning goals with zero penalty minutes. Mueller has found the scoresheet in 18 of the Mavericks 22 games so far this season. He's notched two four-game point streaks including one six-game point streak.

Alternate captain Jack Randl has been red hot for the Mavericks this season. Currently leading Omaha in points, the Senior winger has been nothing short of exceptional this year. He led the NCAA in goals for multiple weeks and is currently tied for 3rd with 15. In 38 games last season, Randl totaled nine goals. The Carpentersville, Illinois native surpassed that mark just eight games into the 2022-23 season. Randl currently leads all Mavericks in goals, game winning goals, power play goals and plus/minus. He is the first player in program history to score 8 goals in the first 6 games of a season. The Maverick winger is the 19th player in Omaha Hockey history to score a goal in four consecutive games. Randl is the third player in school history to score a goal in the first four games of the season. The only other players to score goals in the first four games of the season are Stanley Cup winner Jake Guentzel (2014-15) and Matt Ambroz (2010-11).

Combined, the two Maverick forwards are one and two in points for Omaha. The two linemates have totaled 24 goals, 19 assists, 116 shots on net and are a combined +17.
