Freshman forward
Ray Fust was named NCHC Rookie of the Week for his efforts in the Mavericks Week 15 sweep of the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs. The Omaha newcomer doubled his season total in points with a four-point weekend and now has three goals and five assists on the 2022-23 campaign.
Fust, who earns his first career NCHC weekly honor, tallied two goals, two assists and a +5 rating in two games against the Bulldogs. On Friday night, the Maverick forward registered an assist on
Jake Pivonka's game winning goal. The Bellinzona, Switzerland natives involvement continued when he got the scoring started for Omaha on Saturday night when he backhanded a loose puck home just 2:17 into the game. He also had the primary assist on freshman forward
Jacob Slipec's late insurance breakaway goal. Fust skied the puck out of the zone and it landed perfectly in front of Slipec who would go down and finish the job. With 10 seconds left in regulation, he tapped in his second goal of the night to extend Omaha's lead to 6-1.
Fust becomes the fourth Maverick skater to win NCHC weekly accolades. He joins forward
Matt Miller (Week 9), blueliner
Jonny Tychonick (Week 9) and netminder
Jake Kucharski (Week 3, 9).
The Mavericks will wrap up their six-game homestand this weekend against the Miami RedHawks.
