NCHC Releases Preseason Media Poll, Mavericks Tabbed to Finish 7th

The 2022-23 NCHC Preseason Media Poll in which Omaha was picked to finish 7th in was released this afternoon. It drops 10 days before the Mavericks take the ice against 2022 NCAA runner-up, Minnesota State, in an exhibition at Baxter Arena.

The defending national champion Denver Pioneers were selected to win the Penrose Cup for the second season in row after collecting 19-of-23 first place votes. To view the full results of the Preseason Poll, see below.

Coming off a 21 win season last year, Omaha welcomes 11 new faces to the program. 10 freshmen and graduate transfer Jake Pivonka make up the Maverick newcomers. Omaha welcomes back 15 letterwinners with 12 on their way out from last season.

The Mavericks finished 11-13 in NCHC play last season. Those 11 wins are the second best mark under head coach Mike Gabinet. After playing a full October slate of non-conference games, Omaha will kick off NCHC play with a home series against conference rival, the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks, November 4-5.
