Leadership for the 2022-23 season is set as the Mavericks have announced senior forwards,
Nolan Sullivan and
Jack Randl along with junior winger
Matt Miller will don this year's captaincy letters.
Sullivan will be equipped with the "C" while Randl and Miller will each wear the alternate "A" this season.
"
Nolan Sullivan brings an elite work ethic and the highest degree of character to our program," Omaha head coach
Mike Gabinet said. "He drives our culture each day and sets the standard of what Omaha Hockey is all about. We are thrilled to have him continue to lead our group this year as captain."
A native of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Sullivan was an alternate captain both his sophomore and junior seasons before earning the captain's patch this year. In 96 career games with the Mavericks, the senior forward has totaled 14 goals and 16 assists with 142 shots on net.
"It's a huge honor to wear the C," newly appointed Omaha captain
Nolan Sullivan said. "It was a goal of mine to be in a leadership position coming in as a freshman, so it's fun to see the hard work pay off. Having nine freshman and two transfers, we took a ton of time to get everyone up to speed over the summer. We are incredibly excited about this group and look forward to getting the season rolling."
In 62 games with the Mavericks, Randl has registered 14 goals and 19 helpers on 117 shots. Randl is coming off his best season with Omaha tallying nine lamp lighters and dishing out 11 assists playing in all 38 games. Miller tied his best season in a Mavericks sweater last year. The Leo, Indiana, native played in 30 games, totaling 13 points. Of those 13 points, 10 of them were goals and five of them ended up being game winning goals. That mark led all Omaha skaters in 2021-22.
"Our room is deep with supporting leaders -
Jack Randl &
Matt Miller rise to the top as positive examples of what leadership must look like to have success at the highest level of college hockey," Gabinet said. "These three as a group care deeply about our program, the people in it, and what it takes each day to create an elite environment. Omaha Hockey is in good hands."
"Millsy and Rands are two of my best friends on the team and guys I've highly respected on and off the ice since the day they stepped onto campus," Sullivan said. We've had great communication thus far, and I believe the blend of our 3 personalities will make for an impressive leadership core to follow."
Omaha will kick off their 2022-23 campaign on Saturday, October 1
st against Minnesota State in an exhibition matchup before getting the regular season underway against Niagara at Baxter Arena, the following weekend, October 8-9.
