Mavericks Set for South Dakota Road Trip

The Omaha women's basketball team will head to South Dakota this weekend to take on the South Dakota Coyotes on Thursday at 7 pm and the South Dakota State Jackrabbits Saturday at 2 pm. Both games can be heard on 1180 The Zone with Jon Schriner on the call. Links to live stats, audio and video are available on OMavs.com.


Quick Hits

• The Mavericks are coming off losses to North Dakota State and North Dakota at Baxter Arena. They fell to the Bison 69-53 on Feb. 3 and to the Fighting Hawks 74-61 on Feb. 5.

• Seniors Elena Pilakouta and Mariah Murdie were the lone Mavericks to score in double digits against both   NDSU and UND. They scored 19 and 12 points respectively against the Bison and both led Omaha with 17 points against the Fighting Hawks.

• Murdie has now scored in double digits in 40 career games, while leading the Mavericks in scoring in 23 games. She's the Omaha active leader in at least 10 different categories including points, assists, rebounds, steals and blocks.

Alexis Pratt scored a career-high 17 points against Kansas City on Jan. 29 including a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line, she also recorded a career-best three steals. Pratt's previous career high was 10 points at Western Illinois on Dec. 22.

Sophie Johnston scored a season-high 10 points against Kansas City Jan. 29. It was the first double digit scoring output for Johnston since she scored 10 against Denver on Feb. 22, 2021. She has drained at least one three in six of her last seven games.

Katie Keitges led the Mavericks with 10 points including two buckets from beyond the arc in the Mavericks 64-55 loss on Jan. 27 at Oral Roberts. She scored eight of her ten in the first quarter.

Josie Filer hauled in 10 rebounds against the Roos on Monday Jan. 10, she's recorded double-digit rebounding efforts in three of her games this season and eclipsed 500 career rebounds against Kansas City.

• Murdie also reached 500 career rebounds against the Roos on Jan. 10, she's currently sixth in The Summit League in rebounding and third in blocks.

• Omaha was tabbed eighth in the Summit League Preseason Poll. The Mavericks finished last season 7-13 overall with a 4-8 league finish. They earned the eighth seed in the Summit League Tournament last spring and  advanced to the Championship game before falling to South Dakota.


Scouting the South Dakota Coyotes

• South Dakota is coming off their first conference defeat of the season, a 75-65 loss at the hands of the South Dakota State Jackrabbits, on the road. They are led by Chloe Lamb who is averaging 15.7 points-per-game.

• Head coach Dawn Plitzuweit is in her sixth season in charge of the Coyotes. She is 147-35 at South Dakota and 335-128 in her career.


All-Time Against South Dakota

South Dakota leads the all-time series between the two teams 50-35. The Coyotes won the first matchup of the season between the two teams 68-45 on Jan. 15 at Baxter Arena. Mariah Murdie, Grace Cave and Josie Filer all scored in double digits for the Mavericks with Murdie and Cave scoring 12 and Filer getting 10.

Scouting the South Dakota State Jackrabbits

• The Jackrabbits are coming off a 75-65 home victory over the first place South Dakota Coyotes. They are led in scoring by Paige Meyer who along with Paiton Burckhard and Myah Selland all average double digits.

•Head coach Aaron Johnston is in his 22nd season in charge of the Jackrabbits, with a 528-178 record during his tenor.


All-Time Against South Dakota State

South Dakota State leads the all-time series 48-31. The Jackrabbits won the first matchup of the season at Baxter arena 72-49 on Jan. 13. Elena Pilakouta was the lone Maverick in double digits in that contest with 16 points.
