No. 18 Omaha Wraps Up Road Swing at Miami

Feb 10, 2022

This Week
No. 18 Omaha wraps up its three-week string of road series in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference as it heads to Oxford, Ohio, to face Miami at Cady Arena Friday and Saturday.

The Teams
Omaha rallied past No. 12 North Dakota 3-2 on an overtime goal by Brannon McManus on Saturday after dropping the opening game of the series 4-1 on Friday. It was the fifth time in the last six series that the Mavericks have won the finale of a weekend series after losing in the opener.
Miami, still looking for its first win of 2022, was swept at home by league-leading Denver. The RedHawks watched a late two-goal lead disappear in a 5-4 overtime loss in the opener before falling 4-2 in the finale. Miami's last victory came on Dec. 12 at Mercyhurst, when it claimed a 7-4 nonconference victory.

The Coaches
Mike Gabinet is in his fifth season as head coach of the Maverick and has posted a 71-80-11 record at his alma mater. The 2004 Omaha graduate served as an associate head coach during the 2016-17 season before being elevated to the head coach position in 2017-18.
Gabinet returned to Omaha after four seasons at the North Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) in Edmonton, Alberta, the last as its head coach. That season, he led the Ooks to a 36-0-0 record and the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference Championship. He was named the conference Coach of the Year and became the first rookie head coach in Canadian college hockey to guide his team to an undefeated record.
Gabinet, a standout defenseman for the Mavericks from 2000-04, is assisted by Dave Noel-Bernier (Omaha, 2001) and Paul Jerrard (Lake Superior State, 1987).
Chris Bergeron (Miami, 1993) is in his third season as the head coach of his alma mater. He went 171-154-44 in nine seasons at Bowling Green prior to taking over the RedHawk program in 2019.

Media
Friday's game in Colorado Springs will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network. Alex Heinert will have the play-by-play duties while Dave Starman will be the analyst. Shireen Saski will serve as the rinkside reporter.
Both games can be heard live on 1180 The Zone. Casey Roehl will handle the play-by-play duties while Terry Leahy provides analysis. Coverage begins with the FNBO Pregame Show.
Live video is available on NCHC.tv while audio and stat links are available at OMavs.com.

Series History: Omaha vs. Miami
The Mavericks and RedHawks have played each other regularly since 1999, first meeting in a neutral-site game at the Badger Showdown in Milwaukee, Wis. Omaha won that contest, but it trails in the all-time series. Miami holds a 27-21-7 edge and has gone 6-2-1 in the last nine meetings between the teams.
The team split a series at Baxter Arena this season. The RedHawks rallied for a 4-3 victory on Nov. 5. Omaha posted a 4-1 win the following night.
