Women's Basketball Returns Home for Game with Saint Mary

After two weeks of road games, the Mavericks (4-5) return to Baxter Arena for their final home game of 2022 as they host the College of Saint Mary (3-8) this Sunday at 2 p.m. The game can be heard on 1180 The Zone with Jon Schriner on the call. Quick Hits
  • The Mavericks closed out their four-game road trip with a 36-83 loss to SEC powerhouse Mizzou. Overall, Omaha went 1-3 on its road trip, defeating Pepperdine while suffering a couple of last-second losses to Tennessee State and CSU Bakersfield.
  • Omaha went 8-for-12 on free throws at Mizzou and is now 136-for-174 as a team this year. Their .782 FT% is second in the Summit League behind only South Dakota (.802).
  • Grace Cave was Omaha's leading scorer in Missouri, racking up 10 points including a couple of three-pointers. This was her second game this year as the team's leading scorer and sixth with double digits. Cave also had a team-high three steals, giving her the most in the Summit League with 22.
  • Despite a relatively down game against Mizzou with two points and four rebounds, Elena Pilakouta remains the team's top scorer and rebounder with 117 points (13.0 ppg) and 58 total rebounds (4.6 rpg). She is also top 10 in the Summit League in points and rebounds, as well as reaching second place in FG% at 59.3%.
  • Jaylen Townsend earned her first start as a Maverick on Friday, scoring four points. She now has 43 points (4.8 ppg) in her first season with Omaha.
  • Katie Keitges blocked the first two shots of her career against the Tigers after previously going 40 games and 764 minutes without one.
  • Aaliyah Stanley is now only 5 points away from 100 after dropping seven on Friday. She's currently averaging 10.6 ppg, good for 17th in the league.
Scouting the Flames
The Flames are currently 3-8 overall and 1-6 in the GPAC, winning their first two games of the season against Iowa Wesleyan (60-51) and Waldorf (60-37), before picking up their third win against Hastings (61-58) on November 22. Saint Mary's most recent game was a 68-90 conference loss to Doane on December 7. Last year, the Flames went 13-15, their best record since going 16-14 in the 2015-16 season.

Senior guard Bailey White is Saint Mary's leading scorer with 91 points (8.3 ppg) on the year. Her best game came on opening day when she dropped 21 points on Iowa Western, going 5-for-10 on three-pointers in the process. 

Senior forward Clare Lewandowski is tops on the team in total rebounds with 54 (4.9 rpg) and blocks with nine. She picked up season highs with 10 rebounds and two blocks against Iowa Wesleyan. Lewandowski also has 56 points this year, notching double digits against Northwestern College and Briar Cliff.

Junior guard Allison Schubert leads the Flames with 17 steals and 19 assists, while also having 80 points (7.3 ppg) and 29 rebounds. Her best game so far came on November 22 at Hastings, when she put up season highs with seven rebounds, four steals, and three assists, while also scoring 10 points.

Head Coach Kirk Walker is in his 5th season with the College of Saint Mary, compiling a 26-96 record in that time.

All-Time Against the College of Saint Mary
The Mavericks are 29-1 all-time against the Flames, having won every game in the series since 1975. Their last meeting was just over a year ago on December 5, 2021, when they won 87-57 in Baxter Arena.
