After a successful 3-1 home stand, the Mavericks (3-2) will begin a four-game road trip starting this Sunday when they head to Nashville, Tennessee for a 1 p.m. matchup with Tennessee State (2-3). Quick Hits
- The Mavericks lost their first home game of the season last week when they fell 71-93 to No. 16 Creighton. Before that, Omaha was undefeated at home with wins over Wichita State (72-67), Weber State (91-73), and Peru State (91-60).
- Despite the loss, the Mavericks bested the Bluejays in free throws (14-for-16 vs. 9-for-11), bench scoring (24 vs. 15), and points off turnovers (10 vs. 7). Overall, Omaha shot 25-for-62 (.403) on field goals.
- For the first time this season, Aaliyah Stanley was the team's leading scorer with 15 points vs. Creighton. She went 6-for-12 (50%) on field goals, including two 3-PT FGs. She was also Omaha's leading rebounder with five boards. Stanley now has 51 points (10.2 ppg) and 20 rebounds (4.0 rpg) this season.
- Elena Pilakouta continued her streak of scoring at least 10 points in every game this season with 10 more on Tuesday. She remains the team leader in scoring with 78 points and 15.6 ppg, while also pacing the Mavericks with 36 total rebounds and 7.2 rpg.
- Jaylen Townsend had the first double-digit scoring game of her Mavericks career with 13 points against Creighton. She also drained three from behind the arc (3-for-6) to lead the team in three-pointers.
- Kennedi Grant (12 points) and Grace Cave (10) rounded out Omaha's double-digit scorers last week, with Grant going 5-for-6 on free throws and Cave a perfect 3-for-3. Grant also had a three-pointer and is now shooting an even 50% on 3-PT FGs (9-for-18), while Cave's free throw percentage increased to 84.6% (11-for-13).
Scouting the Tigers
The Tigers are coming off a 12-19 season in which they reached the quarterfinals of the Ohio Valley Conference Championships, beating Eastern Illinois 72-61 in the opening round before falling 53-67 to Austin Peay.
Sophomore guard Gia Adams currently leads TSU with 89 points (17.8 ppg), going 30-for-74 (.405) on field goals and 20-for-24 (.833) on free throws. She scored a season-high 27 points at Kansas City earlier this month. Last year she was named OVC Freshman of the Year after averaging 12.9 ppg and 2.5 rpg.
Senior forward Sierra McCullough paces the Tigers with 44 total rebounds (8.8 rpg). She's also 10-for-13 on free throws (.769) and has four steals. Against Kansas City on November 11, she earned a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Zyion Shannon is the team leader in steals with 13, including a season-high five vs. Trevecca Nazarene on November 14. The rookie also has six assists and 33 points (6.6 rpg) on the year.
Head coach Ty Evans is in his 3rd season leading the Tigers, posting a 14-44 record in that span.
All-Time Against Tennessee State
Last season, the Mavericks came out on top in their one and only game against Tennessee State in program history. Omaha hosted the Tigers on December 2, 2021, winning 67-56.
