Women's Basketball Hosts Crosstown Rival #16 Creighton

Riding a three-game winning streak and an undefeated start at home, the Omaha women's basketball team concludes its four-game home stand this Tuesday when they host No. 16 Creighton at 7 p.m. in Baxter Arena.

  • After an opening loss to Nebraska, the Mavericks returned home for a four-game home stand. Through the first three games, Omaha is undefeated after taking down Wichita State (72-67), Weber State (91-73), and Peru State (91-60) over the past week. 
  • Omaha's 91 points against Weber State were the most the team has scored in a single game since February 6, 2021. Three days later, the Mavericks scored 91 points against Peru State, giving them 90+ points in back-to-back games for the first time since February 2017.
  • The Mavericks played their one and only game in Sapp Fieldhouse this season against Peru State on Saturday. Omaha went 31-for-70 (.443) on field goals, including 11-for-29 (.379) on 3-PT FGs, and 18-for-23 (.783) on free throws.
  • Elena Pilakouta earned her first double-double of the season on Saturday, scoring 18 points and picking up 11 boards. She leads the team with 68 points (17.0 ppg) and 32 rebounds (8.0 rpg) this season.
  • Kennedi Grant and Ana Nikulochkina both posted season-highs against Peru State with 17 and 12 points, respectively. Both went 4-for-6 on three-pointers, while Grant led the team with six assists. 
  • Grace Cave led the team with a career-best six steals on Saturday. She now leads the team with 10 steals and is second in scoring with 40 points (10.0 ppg).
  • Akili Felici scored her first points of the season last week with nine points on a 3-PT FG, two layups, and two free throws against Peru State. 
Scouting the Bluejays
The Bluejays are coming off one of the best seasons in program history, going 23-10 last season, and 15-5 in the Big East. They narrowly lost to Seton Hall 65-66 in the Big East Tournament, before making it all the way to the Elite Eight where they were finally stopped by the No. 1 seed South Carolina 80-50. Creighton is currently ranked No. 20 in the country after a 4-0 start to their 2022-23 campaign.

Junior guard Lauren Jensen was named All-BIG EAST Second Team last year after putting up 413 points and a team-high 82 three-pointers. This year, she leads the team with 74 points after four games, including a 30-point performance in the season opener at South Dakota State. She also owns a .462 (30-for-65) field goal percentage.

Junior guard/forward Morgan Maly is the reigning BIG EAST Sixth Woman of the Year after scoring 392 points in 2021-22. She's currently at 64 points on the season, picking up a double-double at South Dakota with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Senior guard/forward Carly Bachelor totaled 248 points last year with a team-best 55.2% (101-for-183) shooting percentage. She's already scored 38 points this season with a 52.9% (18-for-34) shooting percentage.

Head coach Jim Flanery is in his 21st season at the helm of the Bluejays, posting a 382-253 record in that span.

All-Time Against Creighton
The Mavericks are tied 16-16 all-time with lead with Creighton. From their first ever meeting in 1973 through to 1982, Omaha won 16 of the first 17 games between them. Since 1983, however, Creighton has gone undefeated with 15 straight wins, including a 71-51 victory at home last season.
