OMAHA, Neb. - After announcing the signings of Alison Stephens and Cora Olsen last Wednesday, the women's basketball team has officially signed one more player ahead of the 2023-24 season; Lucy Ghaifan.
"I like the coaches, and the chemistry with the girls and the energy with the team."
From Grand Island, Nebraska, Ghaifan is a four-year member of the Grand Island Central Catholic High School women's basketball team. In her freshman season, Ghaifan helped her team to a 17-8 record and a state tournament appearance. The next year, she fully broke out with the Crusaders, earning First Team All-State Tournament, Lincoln Journal Star Honorable Mention, and Omaha World Herald Honorable Mention as the team went 21-3 and once again made it to the state tournament.
Ghaifan continued her success in her junior season, making Lincoln Journal Start First Team and Omaha World Herald First Team, as well as coming away with All-Heartland First Team honors and another spot on the All-State Tournament team. That year,
her team went 22-6 and finished third in the state championships.
Ghaifan is also a member of the Central Force AAU club team.
"I am thrilled to announce the addition of Lucy to our 2023 class," exclaimed Head Coach
Carrie Banks. "She is a tough undersized post with great footwork and touch around the rim. Lucy has a high ceiling and is just scratching the surface of her potential. She will bring much needed depth to our post play."
