Tipping Off
Fresh off a win over Wichita State in their 2022-23 home opener, the Omaha women's basketball team continues its four-game home stand this Wednesday when they take on Weber State at 5 p.m. in Baxter Arena.

- After an opening loss to Nebraska last week, the Mavericks returned home and earned one of the most stunning wins in the program's Division I history, as Omaha emerged victorious after a razor thin affair with Wichita State that ended 72-67 in overtime. The Mavericks shot 35.2% (25-for-71) and went 15-for-19 (78.9%) from the foul line. They also picked up 36 rebounds, 11 steals, and scored 20 points off turnovers.
- Grace Cave led the way on Saturday with 18 points, including nine from behind the arc. With the team down by three with just 13 seconds left, Cave had the play of the game when she took a deep pass down the court on a fastbreak and drained the game-tying three.
- Kennedi Grant was the one who enabled Cave's game-saving three-pointer with a perfect outlet pass with 20 seconds left. She also made three 3-PT FGs and recorded 11 points. In addition to this, Grant set new career, single-game highs in assists (seven) and steals (three).
- Elena Pilakouta reached double-digit points for the second game in a row after posting 15 on Saturday. She was once again automatic in the paint, going 7-for-11 (.636) on field goals. This included the go-ahead layup with 1:08 left in overtime. She also led the team in rebounds for the second-straight game with eight.
- Aaliyah Stanley and Polina Nikulochkina both had solid offensive days as well, scoring eight and nine points, respectively. Both were highly efficient from the charity stripe, with Stanley going 3-for-4 and Nikulochkina going 5-for-6.
Scouting the Wildcats
The Wildcats went 11-20 in 2021-22, making it to the semifinals in the Big Sky playoffs where they were defeated by Montana State 81-60. In their 2022-23 season opener, Weber State fell to Boise State 63-52 on the road. The Wildcats went 13-for-48 (27.1%) on field goals, including 3-for-9 (33.3%) on three-pointers, while also going 23-for-33 (69.7%) on free throws.
Senior forward Jadyn Matthew posted a double-double in the season opener with 15 points and 11 rebounds, both of which were team highs. She also went 5-for-5 on free throws. In her career, she owns 780 points (9.8 ppg), 585 rebounds (7.3 rpg), and a .767 free throw percentage (201-for-262).
Daryn Hickok, another senior forward, also had double-digit points on Sunday, going 8-for-12 on free throws and 2-for-5 on field goals. She has 974 points (12.8 ppg) in her career, as well as a .766 free throw percentage (343-for-448) and 92 steals. Senior guard Ava Williams led the team with three steals against Boise State and had eight points and eight rebounds. Now in her second season with the Wildcats after transferring from Colgate, she has 79 rebounds (2.8 rpg) in her Weber State career.
Head coach Velaida Harris is in her fifth season at the helm of the Wildcats, posting a 23-93 record in that span.
All-Time Against Weber State
The Mavericks are 1-1 against Weber State all time. Their first ever meeting was back in 1981, when the Mavericks came out on top 66-65 in overtime. It would not be for another 40 years that these two teams would meet, as Weber State beat Omaha 59-45 last season.
