The Omaha Mavericks knock off No. 20 Minnesota Duluth 3-2 behind a pair of 3rd period power play goals to take game 1 of this two-game series.

It was the captain, Nolan Sullivan who got things started tonight for the Mavericks. Sullivan was able to get a stick on a Nolan Krenzen shot from the point. Jacob Slipec registered the secondary assist.

Omaha found themselves trailing 2-1 after 40 minutes of hockey. The Mavericks cashed in on two power play goals from Ty Mueller and Matt Miller. Mueller finished a tic-tac-toe play back door to equalize the game just 1:12 into the 3rd period. Jacob Guevin and Jo Lemay were the tic and tac of the play. With 8:27 to play in regulation, Matt Miller cleaned up a loose puck sitting in the crease. Cameron Berg and Jonny Tychonick had the helpers on the play.

Omaha went 50 percent (2-for-4) on the power play this evening. They improve to 3-3-1 when scoring a power play goal.

Senior netminder Jake Kucharski had yet another stellar outing for Omaha tonight. The Erie, Pennsylvania native stopped 38 of the 40 shots he faced tonight.

The Mavericks and Bulldogs will wrap up the series tomorrow night at Amsoil Arena. Puck drop slated for 6:07 p.m.
