No. 16 Omaha Begins Road Swing in Colorado

Jan 26, 2022

This Week
No. 16 Omaha begins a three-week swing of road series in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference as it heads to Colorado Springs, Colo., to face Colorado College at the new Robson Arena Friday and Saturday.

The Teams
Omaha knocked off No. 7 Minnesota Duluth 5-1 at Baxter Arena on Saturday after losing to the Bulldogs by the same margin the night before. It was the third win over a top-10 team this season for the Mavericks, who have four series against ranked opponents on their remaining conference schedule.
Colorado College has already been through one stretch in which it played four consecutive ranked foes. It started another last week when it was shut out in both ends of a home-and-home series with No. 5 Denver, 5-0 and 4-0. The Tigers have played seven different ranked opponents this season, including Omaha.

The Coaches
Mike Gabinet is in his fifth season as head coach of the Maverick and has posted a 69-78-11 record at his alma mater. The 2004 Omaha graduate served as an associate head coach during the 2016-17 season before being elevated to the head coach position in 2017-18.
Gabinet returned to Omaha after four seasons at the North Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) in Edmonton, Alberta, the last as its head coach. That season, he led the Ooks to a 36-0-0 record and the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference Championship. He was named the conference Coach of the Year and became the first rookie head coach in Canadian college hockey to guide his team to an undefeated record.
Gabinet, a standout defenseman for the Mavericks from 2000-04, is assisted by Dave Noel-Bernier (Omaha, 2001) and Paul Jerrard (Lake Superior State, 1987).
Kris Mayotte is in his first season as the head coach at Colorado College after spending 10 years as a Division I assistant and associate head coach. He spent two seasons at Michigan after five years with Providence.

Media
Friday's game in Colorado Springs will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network. Alex Heinert will have the play-by-play duties while Dave Starman will be the analyst. Shireen Saski will serve as the rinkside reporter.
Both games can be heard live on 1180 The Zone. Casey Roehl will handle the play-by-play duties while Terry Leahy provides analysis. Coverage begins with the FNBO Pregame Show.
Live video is available on NCHC.tv on Saturday while audio and stat links are available at OMavs.com.

Series History: Omaha vs. Colorado College
The Mavericks and Tigers initially met in the opener of the 2006-07 season in Anchorage, Alaska, at the Nye Frontier Classic. They then played a few times from 2010-13 before both became charter members of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference, where they've battled annually in league play.
Omaha holds a 25-11-5 advantage all-time against Colorado College and has dominated the series in the past couple of years. The Mavericks have won 10 of their last 12 games against the Tigers. The teams split a series in Omaha in early December, with Omaha taking the opener 4-3 and CC winning the finale 4-0.
