Follow The Game
The Omaha women's basketball team is set to take on Kansas City at 7 p.m. on Monday night at Baxter Arena. The game can be heard on 1180 The Zone with Jon Schriner on the call. Links to live stats, audio and video will be available on OMavs.com. The contest will not be ticketed and is free to the public to attend. Baxter Arena doors open at 6 p.m.
Quick Hits
• The Mavericks and Roos were originally scheduled to face on Dec. 30, but that contest was postponed to due to COVID protocols.
• Omaha got their second conference victory of the season Saturday afternoon, with a 68-54 win over North Dakota State in Fargo, North Dakota. Grace Cave scored a career-high 25 points to lead the Mavericks to the win.
• Cave played a career-high 40 minutes in the win and went 10-15 from the floor on the way to her career high 25 points and seven rebounds.
• Two other Mavericks joined her in double digits against North Dakota State, including Sam Mitchell, who drained three buckets from deep on her way to 16 points and Josie Filer, who chipped in 10 points and five boards.
• Omaha shot a season-best 51.0 (26-51) percent from the field against North Dakota State.
• Alexis Pratt recorded a career-best 10 points against Western Illinois on Dec. 22 to go along with her career-high seven assists - the most a Maverick has recorded in a game this season.
• Seniors Josie Filer and Sophie Johnston made their season debut's against St. Thomas on Dec. 20 after missing the first nine games due to injury. Filer scored nine points and hauled in 10 rebounds against Western Illinois on Dec. 22 in 27 minutes of action.
• Omaha was tabbed eighth in the Summit League Preseason Poll. The Mavericks finished last season 7-13 overall with a 4-8 league finish. They earned the eighth seed in the Summit League Tournament last spring and advanced to the Championship game before falling to South Dakota.
Scouting the Kansas City Roos
• Due to COVID protocols, the Roos havent played since their 67-57 loss to South Dakota on Dec. 22. Kansas City has a 10-3 record and are led in scoring by the duo of Naomie Alnatas and Brooklyn McDavid who are averaging 18.7 and 16.8 points-per-game respectively. McDavid was named Summit League Player of the Week Nov. 22 and Dec. 20.
• Head coach Jaycie Hoyt is in her fifth season in charge of the Roos. Hoyt is 68-59 in her time in charge, her first head coaching position.
All-Time Against Kansas City
Omaha leads the all-time series between the two teams 6-5. Kansas City won both matchups between the two teams in the 2020-21 season. The Roos won the first game 69-59 on Feb. 12 followed by a 76-66 win the next day - both in Kansas City.
