The Omaha women's basketball team is set to take on St. Thomas for the first time in the Tommies first ever Summit League conference matchup, Monday in St. Paul. Monday's contest is set to tip off at 7 p.m. and can be heard on 1180 The Zone with Jon Schriner on the call. Links to live stats, audio and video will be available on OMavs.com.
Quick Hits
• Last time out the Mavericks took down Northern Colorado 48-41 in the last of four straight at Baxter Arena, they won three out of four during the home stand.
• Mariah Murdie led the Mavericks against the Bears with 21 points, the highest point total she's tallied this season and just three points off her career high. She's scored in double-digits in six games this season and has led the Mavericks in rebounding in six as well. Murdie also recorded her 750th point and 100th assist against the College of Saint Mary Dec. 5, she is now the Mavericks active career leader in 10 different categories including points, assists, rebounds, steals, blocks and games played.
• Omaha forced 31 Northern Colorado turnovers, recording a season-high 18 steals including five from Natalie Bartle, the most in her career.
• The Mavericks have controlled the paint in their last five games outscoring their opponent down low in all five games by an average margin of 14 points. They've also outrebounded the opponent in three of those five games, averaging 38.6 rebounds per game in that span.
• Summit League play starts on the road for the Mavericks with St. Thomas followed by a road contest against Western Illinois December 22nd.
• Omaha was tabbed eighth in the Summit League Preseason Poll. The Mavericks finished last season 7-13 overall with a 4-8 league finish. They earned the eighth seed in the Summit League Tournament last spring and advanced to the Championship game before falling to South Dakota.
Scouting the St. Thomas Tommies
• The Tommies are coming off two straight home games, a 67-57 loss to Idaho State and a 92-19 win over Northland College. Erin Nortling leads the Tommies with 13 points-per-game while shooting 33 percent from the three-point line.
• Head coach Ruth Sinn is in her seventeenth season in charge of the Tommies. Sinn is 359-95 in her time in charge including 356-88 in Division III.
