MACOMB, Ill. - The Omaha women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Western Illinois on Friday afternoon at Varsity Courts. The loss drops the Mavericks to 6-12 (2-2 Summit League) this season.
Omaha's rally fell short in doubles play, giving Western Illinois an early 1-0 lead. No. 2 pair of freshmen Rylee Tucker and Emily Behling fell to Laura Ballesteros and Natalia Bravo, 6-1, to give the Bulldogs an early advantage. Then, at the No. 3 spot, sophomore Kylie Boyer and junior Hannah Hills defeated Anna Daniel Fuentes and Cary Milanes, 6-2, to even it at 1-1. The Bulldogs officially claimed the doubles point when the pair of junior Michelle Lo and sophonore Janelle Wilson fell to Courtney Lubbers and Jenna Wallace, 7-6(4), at No. 1.
Western Illinois took five of the six singles matches to claim the 6-1 win. Lo, competing at the No. 1 position, picked up Omaha's only point with a 4-6, 6-2, 10-6 victory over Lubbers.
Omaha returns to action on Sunday, April 9, hosting Marquette at Noon at Koch Tennis Center.
