OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha women's tennis team welcomed crosstown rival Creighton to Koch Family Tennis Center Saturday afternoon, falling 5-2. The regular-season finale brings the Mavericks to 6-16 on the year, while the Bluejays improve to 12-9.
Omaha also honored its lone senior, four-year letterwinner
Kenzie Hill, with Senior Day festivities.
UNO won two of three doubles matches to claim the doubles point for an early 1-0 lead. Junior
Michelle Lo and sophomore
Janelle Wilson teamed up at No. 1 to defeat Ashley Ishimura and Darby Rosette (6-4), and freshmen duo
Rylee Tucker and
Emily Behling topped Michaela Henne and Katherine Nelsen at No. 2 (6-2).
CU rebounded in singles play, however, winning five of the six matches. Wilson mustered a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Henne at No. 2, which tied the match at 2-2, but the Jays took the remaining matches to clinch the decision.
"This was a tough loss to our rival today," head coach
Adam Summitt said. "We played some of our best tennis since the Oral Roberts match earlier this month, but Creighton stepped up after doubles and played some great tennis themselves. We're close with them and hope next year we can use this experience to our benefit."
