OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's tennis team won its second consecutive match on Sunday, defeating Oral Roberts, 4-3, at Miracle Hill Tennis Center. With the win, the Mavericks improve to 6-11 (2-1 Summit League) on the season.
Omaha earned the doubles point by winning two of the three matches to start the morning. The pair of sophomore Kylie Boyer and senior Kenzie Hill defeated Brenda Mercado Jove and Ximena Puentes, 6-3, at the No. 3 spot. The No. 2 pair of freshmen Rylee Tucker and Emily Behling clinched the doubles point for Omaha by beating Ceijania Cornelius and Andrea Vasiljevic, 6-3.
Omaha won three of the six singles matches to earn the 4-3 victory. At the No. 1 spot, junior Michelle Lo defeated Vasiljevic, 6-0, 6-2 to extend Omaha's lead to 2-0. Oral Roberts rallied to tie the match after Behling fell to Jovana Antonijevic, 6-1, 1-6, 0-6, at the No. 3 position and Hill lost to Puentes, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 6. The Golden Eagles took a 3-2 lead after Boyer, competing at the No. 4 position, fell to Petya Simeonova, 6-3, 7-5. Tucker tied the match for Omaha with a 7-6(5), 6-7(5), 6-3 win over Jove at the No. 5 spot. Omaha officially claimed the match after sophomore Janelle Wilson triumphed over Cornelius, 6-7(0), 7-4(4), 6-4.
“This was an amazing win today,” head coach Adam Summitt said. “This was another solid win for the ladies. We knew it was going to be a dogfight and everyone stepped up in their own way. This win is a big boost of confidence and gives us some momentum going into our match with Western Illinois.”
Omaha returns to action Friday, April 7, facing Western Illinios at Noon in Macomb, Ill.
