GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Omaha women's tennis team completed its weekend swing on Sunday, dropping a 5-2 decision to North Dakota at Choice Health and Fitness. With the loss, Omaha falls to 3-8 (0-1 Summit League) on the season.
North Dakota claimed the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead early in the match. Omaha fell behind when the No. 2 pair of freshmen Rylee Tucker and Emily Behling fell to Mimi Yunker and Alex Revenig, 6-2. Sophomore Kylie Boyer and senior Kenzie Hill evened the doubles matches at one each by topping the pair of Sophie Allen-Fisher and Alysse Nakasato, 6-2, at the No. 3 position. However, the No. 1 pair of junior Michelle Lo and sophomore Janelle Wilson fell to Faith Lee and Preethi Kasilingam, 7-6 (7-5), to give North Dakota the doubles point.
The Fighting Hawks then won four of the singles matches to claim the 5-2 victory. Tucker, competing at the No. 5 position, rallied to defeat Revenig, 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (10-8). At the No. 6 spot, Hill defeated Nakasato, 6-1, 1-6 , 6-3.
“I really want to give credit to North Dakota for today,” head coach Adam Summitt said. “They played very well today. All of their players executed and made us play into their game. I think the results could have been different if we were able to win the doubles point, but North Dakota came up with timely shots to win it.
“Kenzie and Rylee also showed resilience in their singles matches and dug in. I'm very proud of them for their efforts today.”
Omaha returns to action on Friday, March 10, facing Kansas State at 10 a.m. in Manhattan, Kan.
