Mavericks Fall To Colorado State, 5-2

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's tennis team fell to Colorado State, 5-2, Sunday afternoon at Miracle Hill Tennis Center. The Mavericks are now 4-11 (0-1 Summit League) on the season.

Colorado State rallied to claim the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead heading into singles competition. The No. 1 pair of junior Michelle Lo and sophomore Janelle Wilson gave Omaha an early advantage by beating Emily Kolbow and Alyssa Grijalva, 6-0. The freshmen pair of Rylee Tucker and Emily Behling fell to Celine Voss and Riley Reeves, 6-3, at the No. 2 spot to even doubles play at one match each. The Rams claimed the doubles point when the No. 3 pair of sophomore Kylie Boyer and senior Kenzie Hill lost to Sandra Keta and Madison Porter, 6-2.

CSU won the first two singles matches to assume a 3-0 lead before Omaha started to rally. At the No. 1 spot, Lo defeated Kolbow, 7-6 (7-4), 7-5, to give the Mavericks their first point of the day. Wilson defeated Reeves, 7-5, 6-0, at the No. 2 position to pull Omaha within one point. Colorado State clinched the match when Behling fell to Voss, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. The Rams added a final point when Hill lost to Porter, 6-0, 6-2, to give Colorado State the 5-2 victory.

“Today was a tough loss for us, but I thought we played with great energy and intensity to start,” head coach Adam Summitt said. “We played great for the first three games in doubles competition, but we allowed Colorado State to get some momentum and we couldn't stop it. When we fell down 3-0, Janelle and Michelle showed some resilience to get the team back in the match with their wins in singles play. Overall this was great experience for us, and we will improve.”

Omaha returns to action on Friday, March 31 when it hosts South Dakota State for Summit League play at Koch Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
