OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha women's tennis team fell to Lamar, 6-1, on Tuesday afternoon at the Thompson Tennis Center. With the loss, Omaha falls to 3-9 (0-1 Summit League) on the season.
Lamar claimed the doubles point early in the match to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles play. The No. 1 the pair of junior Michelle Lo and sophomore Janelle Wilson lost to Katya Lapayeva and Anna Spengler, 6-2 to open the match. The Cardinals claimed the doubles point when the pair of freshmen Rylee Tucker and Emily Behling dropped a 6-2 decision to Talisa Merchiers and Stephanie Marchena at the No. 2 spot.
Lamar won five of the six singles matches to earn the 6-1 victory. Wilson defeated Spengler, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, at the No. 2 spot for Omaha's lone victory.
“The ladies played tough today,” head coach Adam Summitt said. “Lamar is a talented team that dictated our play. We battled through some conditions today that we don't normally see. We just need to take advantage of some opportunities when they're presented.”
Omaha returns to action on Wednesday, March 22, facing Prairie View A&M at 10 a.m. in Prairie View, Texas.
