INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Omaha women's tennis team dropped a pair of matches to IUPUI and Butler on Friday at the Butler Bubble Tennis Complex. The Mavericks started the day with a 5-2 loss to the Jaguars to open Summit League play before falling to the Bulldogs, 4-1.

With the losses, Omaha falls to 2-7 (0-1 Summit League) on the year 

MATCH ONE - IUPUI 5, OMAHA 2

In the opener, IUPUI claimed the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. At the No. 2 spot, freshmen Rylee Tucker and Emily Behling fell, 6-1, to Valeriia Lavrenchuk and Mariella Pessina. Then, at No. 1, junior Michelle Lo and sophomore Janelle Wilson defeated Samantha Mayer and Sara Sherif, 6-4, to even it at 1-1. IUPUI took the doubles point when senior Kenzie Hill and junior Hannah Hills dropped a 7-5 decision to Molly Nguyen and Marina Schneiger.

Omaha fell in the first two matches of singles competition to give IUPUI a 3-0 lead before the Mavericks began to rally. Wilson, competing at No. 2, defeated Sherif, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6(3), to put Omaha on the board, and Hill rallied to defeat Schneiger, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 5 spot to pull the Mavericks within one. However, the Jaguars claimed the match when No. 1 Lo fell to Lavrenchuk, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. IUPUI added another point after Hills lost to Nguyen, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 6 position. 

MATCH TWO -  Butler 4, Omaha 1

Omaha dropped the doubles point to Butler by falling in two of three matches. The No. 1 pair of Lo and Wilson picked up the lone doubles victory, defeating Bailey Padgett and Kailey Eaton, 6-1.

In singles competition, the Bulldogs won three of five matches to earn a 4-1 win over Omaha. Lo earned the only victory for the Mavericks by defeating Padgett, 6-3, 6-4, at the No. 1 spot. Behling took Nina Bertino to three sets before falling 6-4, 6-7, 2-6, at the No. 4 position.

“I'm proud of how hard we fought and how we refused to give up,” said head coach Adam Summitt. “IUPUI had momentum going into singles, which is huge. We dug in and battled back, but we just ran out of gas. Also, Give credit to Butler for playing well. We'll get a few of these matches down the road.”

Omaha returns to action on Sunday Feb. 26, facing Nebraska at 3:30 p.m. in Lincoln, Neb.
