WATERLOO, Iowa -- The Omaha women's tennis team fell to Northern Iowa 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Black Hawk Tennis Club.
Northern Iowa claimed the doubles points by taking two of three matches. The doubles match featuring the pair of junior Michelle Lo and sophomore Kylie Boyer went unfinished.
Lo, at the No. 1 spot, picked up the only win for the Mavericks in singles, defeating Jicke Stroobant, 4-6 ,6-1, 6-4.
Four of the five losses for the Mavericks went to three sets. At the No. 3 spot, freshman Rylee Tucker fell to Astrid Santos, 3-6, 6-1,3 -6, and sophomore Kylie Boyer at the No. 4 spot lost to Gisela Kemper, 6-3, 3-6, 3-6. At the No. 5, spot freshman Emily Behling fell to Sydney Wolfe 6-0, 4-6, 2-6 while senior Kenzie Hill dropped a 6-4, 3-6, 2-6 at the No. 6 spot.
"It was a tough loss today, though I'm extremely proud of the fight and toughness we showed, head coach Adam Summitt said. “This is huge experience for this team and I'm hoping we can use it going forward."
Omaha returns to action on Friday, Jan. 27 when it hosts Air Force. The match is set for 9 a.m. at Miracle Hill Tennis Center.
