Omaha Sweeps Pair of Saturday Matches

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's tennis team swept Northwestern (Iowa) and College of Saint Mary on Saturday, winning both matches 7-0 to improve to 9-8 (0-1 Summit League) the season. Omaha extended its season-long winning streak to four matches.

OMAHA 7, NORTHWESTERN (IOWA) 0

Omaha opened the day with a sweep of doubles against Northwestern.  The pairs of junior Allison Johnson and freshman Janelle Wilson and senior Maddie Holscher and freshman Rachel Skolaski earned identical 6-0 victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, respectively. At No. 2, the team of senior Molly Matricardi and junior Rebecca Stafford won by a score of 6-1.

The Mavericks continued their strong play with a sweep of the singles matches, earning them the 7-0 victory over the Red Raiders. Sophomore Michelle Lo at No. 1, Johnson at No. 3, freshman Hannah Hills at No. 4 and Holscher at No. 5 all won their matches by identical scores of 6-0, 6-0. At the No. 2 position, junior Kenzie Hill won her match 6-2, 6-0, and Skolaski concluded singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at the No. 6 position.

OMAHA 7, COLLEGE OF SAINT MARY 0

The Mavericks swept the doubles matches against College of Saint Mary in similar fashion as they did earlier in the day. The teams of Holscher and junior Hylan Miller at No. 2 and Skolaski and Johnson at No. 3 won by identical scores of 6-0. At No. 1, the pair of Wilson and Hill completed the sweep with a 6-4 victory.

Omaha then swept singles play to defeat the Flames 7-0. Wilson at No. 2, Stafford at No. 4 and Holscher at No. 5 all won by scores of 6-1, 6-0. Matricardi won her first No. 1 outing of the season, 6-2, 6-1, and Hills won a hard-fought match at No. 3 by a tally of 7-5, 6-2. To finish the day, Skolaski won her match at No. 6, 6-3, 6-2.

The Mavericks will travel to Denver, Colo., on Saturday, April 9 for two matches, facing league foe Denver at 11 a.m., followed by non-conference opponent Colorado State at 2 p.m.
