NORMAN, Okla. – The Omaha track and field team competed in the John Jacobs Invitational in Norman, Okla. on Friday and Saturday.
Sophomore Stephanie Ahrens continued her strong outdoor season with a second-place finish in the high jump on Saturday. She notched a mark of 5-07 ¼ to lead the Mavericks.
Freshman Anna Edet tossed her way into the Omaha record book in the hammer throw. Edet posted a personal best throw of 138-05, good enough for eighth in school history.
In other field events, junior Nicole Liske and freshman Taleah Williams had strong showings in the long jump. Liske finished in ninth with a mark of 17-11 ¾, and Williams recorded a personal best with a leap of 17-07.
In track events, freshman Lauren Houston and junior Alyssa Thavenet both finished in the top eight in the 800 meters. Houston finished with a time of 2:13.84 to earn fourth, and Thavenet finished in seventh with a mark of 2:15.36.
The Mavericks return to action in two meets next week. They'll compete in the three-day Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa on April 28-30 and in the two-day Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola, Iowa on April 28-29.
