OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's tennis team defeated Western Illinois 7-0 Friday afternoon at Miracle Hill Tennis Center. With the win, the Mavericks move back to .500 on the season, improving to 11-11 (2-3 Summit League) overall.
Omaha opened the dual by winning two of the three doubles matches to secure the doubles point. The freshmen duo of Kylie Boyer and Janelle Wilson defeated the pair of Nicole Jones/Arianna Demos, 6-4, at the No. 2 position. The senior pair of Molly Matricardi and Maddie Holscher was also victorious at No. 3 over the team of Maya Sykes/Maria Bessmertnaya, 6-0.
The Mavericks swept the Leathernecks in singles play to win the dual by a score of 7-0. At No. 1, sophomore Michelle Lo defeated Courtney Lubbers, 6-0, 6-3. Junior Hylan Miller earned at victory at No. 2 by beating Bessmertnaya, 6-1, 7-5. At No. 3, Matricardi ousted Arianna Demos by a score of, 6-4, 6-0, and in the No. 4 slot, Wilson earned her 10th singles win of the season by defeating Jones, 6-0, 6-1. Boyer also won at No. 5 with a victory over Jenna Wallace, 6-2, 6-2, and junior Kenzie Hill defeated Sykes, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
Omaha concludes its regular season on Sunday, April 24 with a matchup against South Dakota State at Miracle Hill Tennis Center at 10 a.m.
