SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Omaha women's tennis team concluded its weekend roadtrip Saturday, notching a 4-3 victory over Southeast Missouri. The win improves the Mavericks' record to 5-6 (0-1 Summit League) on the season.
SEMO started the day by winning the doubles point with two victories at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles. The Mavericks won at the No. 1 position with the team of sophomore Michelle Lo and junior Hylan Miller over Mariya Kostiuk/Anais Emelie, 6-3. At No. 2, the SEMO duo of Isabella Krupa/Mila Majtan defeated senior Molly Matricardi and junior Kenzie Hill, 6-1. And at No. 3, juniors Rebecca Stafford and Allison Johnson fell to Viviana Ortiz/Emilia Montenegro, 6-2.
Omaha roared back in singles play to win four of the six matches and secure the team victory. Lo started it off with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Kostiuk, and Miller took down Krupa in No. 2 action, 6-4, 6-0.
At No. 3, Matricardi fell to Majtan, 6-0, 6-2. Freshman Janelle Wilson triumphed over Emelie at No. 4, 6-0, 6-2, and at No. 5 singles, Hill defeated Ana Canahuate-Torres, 6-1, 6-4. Johnson dropped her match in the No. 6 slot to Annisa Warasanti, 7-5, 6-0.
Omaha plays next on Saturday, March 12, visiting in-state foe Nebraska at 3 p.m.
