SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Omaha women's tennis team dropped a road matchup at Missouri State on Friday, falling 5-2. The loss drops the Mavericks to 4-6 (0-1 Summit League) on the season.
Omaha started the match by claiming the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. At the No. 2 position, sophomore Michelle Lo and junior Hylan Miller fell to Ema Turudija/Miranda Poile, 6-4. At No. 2, senior Molly Matricardi and junior Kenzie Hill topped Phoebe Boeschen/Anelisse Torrico, 6-1. At No. 3, freshmen Kylie Boyer and Janelle Wilson clinched the doubles point by defeating Abbey Belote/Faty Khamissi in a nail-biter, 7-5.
The Bears came back in singles play, besting Omaha in five of the six contests to take the match. Wilson was the only Maverick to secure a singles victory, triumphing over Ekaterina Donetskova, at No. 4, 6-2, 3-6, 10-6.
At No. 1, Lo fell to Turudija, 6-0, 7-6 (7-4) and Miller lost to Torrico at No. 2, 6-2, 7-5. Matricadi was bested by Poile at No. 3 by a score of 7-5, 6-3, and Khamissi led Boyer 6-3, 4-0 in the No. 5 matchup before Boyer retired. In the No. 6 slot, Boeschen defeated Hill, 6-1, 7-5.
Omaha returns to action on Saturday, March 5 against SEMO at 1 p.m. in Springfield, Mo.
