VICKSBURG, Miss. - The Omaha women's tennis team opened its spring break trip Tuesday afternoon, dropping a match to Alcorn State, 4-2. Omaha is now 5-8 (0-1 Summit League) on the season.
The Mavericks claimed the doubles point by taking two of the three doubles matches. At No. 1, sophomore Michelle Lo and junior Hylan Miller took down the team of Ekaterina Potapova/Siobhan Ryan-Bovey, 6-4. At No. 2, the pair of senior Molly Matricardi and freshman Janelle Wilson secured the point with their 6-3 victory over Aida Kelic/Ivana Boberic.
Alcorn State won four out of five completed singles matches to rally for the 4-2 victory. Wilson earned the lone singles win for the Mavs, triumphing at No. 4 over Laura Arruda, 6-1, 6-0, which improved her singles record to a team-best 6-5 on the season.
Miller also led her No. 2 singles match over Ivana Boberic, 7-6 (14-12), 4-3, but the match went unfinished.
Omaha continues its spring break trip on Wednesday, March 23 with a doubleheader at Grambling State in Grambling, La. The matches are set for 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
