Binger's Mound Effort Leads Omaha in Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

EMERSON, Ga. – The Omaha baseball team split its two games at the Perfect Game Spring Swing Saturday, falling 11-1 to Presbyterian before bouncing back for a 10-1 win over Bowling Green at the Perfect Game Complex. The Mavericks are now 9-8 (0-0 Summit League) on the season.

GAME 1 -- PRESBYTERIAN 11, OMAHA 1
Brian Kehner (4-0) earned the win for Presbyterian in seven innings of work, limiting Omaha to one run on four hits with no walks and five strikeouts. Sophomore right-hander David Flattery (0-1) took the loss, surrendering six runs -- five earned -- on 10 hits and three walks with two strikeouts over his five-inning start.

Senior Alex Schultz led the Mavericks offensively with a 2-for-3 day at the plate, doubling, walking once and scoring UNO's only run in the bottom of the first.

After senior Clayton Taylor's RBI single up the middle scored Schultz for a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, Presbyterian came back for a run in the third to tie it at 1-1.

The Blue Hose scored at least one run in each of the next five frames, with two in the fourth, three in the fifth, two in the sixth, one in the seventh and two more in the eighth. Presbyterian finished with 11 runs on 15 hits and capitalized on two Maverick errors en route to the 11-1 decision.

GAME 2 -- OMAHA 10, BOWLING GREEN 1
Sophomore Corey Binger tossed a complete game three-hitter in Omaha's victory over Bowling Green. Binger gave up one run and struck out six to improve to 3-0 on the season. Andrew Lacinak (1-2) took the loss for the Falcons, giving up seven runs – two earned – on seven hits while striking out four in 4.1 innings of work.

Taylor led the way at the plate, going 2-5 with a home run – his team-leading fifth of the season -- and four RBI. Senior Cole Gruber and freshman Riley Herold each contributed two RBI in Omaha's fourth double-digit scoring game of the season.

Omaha got the scoring started in the second inning, when junior Sam Palensky drove in freshman Jack Kalina with an RBI single to right. In the next at bat Herold plated Palensky with another base knock to right to take a 2-0 lead. Bowling Green cut the lead in half by scoring a run in the bottom half of the frame.

The Mavericks busted the game open with a five-run fifth inning. Palensky and Herold each reached base on errors to start before senior Collin Leif laid down a sacrifice bunt to put both runners in scoring position. Senior Alex Schultz then plated Palensky with a double, and Gruber singled to center to score Schultz and Palensky. Taylor ended Lacinak's day with a two-run homer, which put UNO ahead 7-1.

Omaha added two more runs in the sixth and one in the ninth to conclude its scoring and take the game, 10-1.

Omaha returns to action on Sunday, March 13 for its final game at the Perfect Game Spring Swing in Emerson, Ga., facing Seton Hall at 9 a.m. (CT).
