OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's tennis team dropped its Summit League opener Saturday, falling 5-2 to Oral Roberts. The Mavericks are now 4-5 (0-1 Summit League) on the season, while Oral Roberts improved to 6-7 (1-0 Summit League).

Omaha started the match on a high note by winning the doubles point with wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 positions. The No. 2 team of senior Molly Matricardi and junior Rebecca Stafford defeated Andrada Gordan/Ceijenia Cornelius, 6-4, and the No. 3 team of junior Kenzie Hill and freshman Janelle Wilson topped Brenda Mercado Jove/Valentina Gisbert with an identical score.

The Golden Eagles rebounded in singles action, taking five of the six matches to clinch the match. Wilson was the lone Maverick to earn a singles victory, triumphing at No. 4 over Gordan, 7-6, 3-1.

Antonijevic defeated Miller, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1, and Cornelius picked up a win over Matricardi, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2. In the No. 3 match, Simeonova got past Boyer, 7-5, 6-4, and Mercado Jove followed with a decision over Hill, 6-2, 6-4. Gisbert finished it off at No. 6, squeaking past junior Allison Johnson, 7-5, 7-6.

Omaha returns to action on Wednesday, March 2, hosting Iowa at Miracle Hill Golf and Tennis Center at 7 p.m.
