OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha women's basketball closes out a two-game trip to the state of South Dakota on Saturday, Jan. 9 against the University of South Dakota. Tip-off from the Dakota Dome in Vermillion is set for 1:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN3 and Midco. The Mavericks are coming off a 68-58 loss at South Dakota State. The Coyotes enter Saturday's contest after a four point loss at Oral Roberts on Wednesday. USD won both games against UNO last season and the defending regular-season champions were picked second in the Summit League Preseason Coaches' Poll.

- UNO is 9-6 overall and 2-1 in Summit League play. They are in a three-way tie with Western Illinois and Oral Roberts for second place in the league.
- Omaha's Mikaela Shaw cracked the 1,000 career point barrier on Thursday night with a 21-point performance against South Dakota State.
- Shaw now has 1,001 career points and 551 career rebounds.
- The Mavericks opened Summit League play with two straight wins. It was the first time Omaha has started conference play 2-0 since the 2004-05 season.
- Sophomore Remy Davenport is the defending Summit League Player of the Week. Last week, she averaged 25 points in two games, but was held to only two points on Thursday against SDSU.
- Davenport has moved into 16th place all-time in 3-point field goals made with 70 makes through 31 games.
- Shaw leads the Summit League in points per game (18.7 ppg), field goals (109-206), and points (280). She ranks in the top four in free throws (3rd/52-75), rebounds (4th/121), and rebounds per game (4th/8.1 rpg).
- Shaw has scored in double-figures every game this season for Omaha.
- Freshman Ellie Brecht is currently fifth in the Summit League in 3-point field goal percentage at 41.3 percent, while Davenport is ranked seventh in the category at 39.3 percent.
- Freshman Caroline Hogue continues to lead the Summit League with 2.7 blocks per game and sophomore Vanessa Barajas is fourth with 1.5 blocks per game.
- Freshman Amber Vidal is seventh in the league in assists per game at 3.0, Shaw is fifth in the league averaging 3.3 apg.
Shaw Joins 1,000 Point Club
Junior forward Mikaela Shaw scored her 1,000th point on Thursday evening making her the 26th Maverick in program history to reach the feat. Shaw accomplished the feat scoring a team-high 21 points as UNO's comeback attempt against #RV South Dakota State fell just short, 68-58.
Shaw currently sits at 1,001 points in her career and is the leading scorer in the Summit League this season. Shaw is averaging 18.7 points per game this year for a season total of 280 points, which puts her on pace to set a new career-high for points in a season after she scored 431 points her sophomore year.
She currently leads the team in rebounds, assists, steals and field goal percentage.
Earlier this season, Shaw become only the 22nd Maverick in program history to pull down 500 career rebounds. She moved into 16th all-time with 551 boards after grabbing nine caroms.
She is the 18th player in women's basketball history to reach the 1,000 points and 500 rebound plateau.

Covering the Coyotes
- South Dakota has won five of six games inside the DakotaDome this season.
- Senior guard Tia Hemiller has scored 10+ points for 12-straight games; one three puts her at 100 career triples. Hemiller has scored in double figures for 12 consecutive games.
- Nicole Seekamp ranks third in points, third in steals, and fourth in assists in program history. Seekamp was the Summit League Preseason Player of the Year.
- Caitlin Duffy averages 2.83 three-point field goals per game for 28th in the nation.
- South Dakota has 266 assists this season, which ranks sixth nationally, and the Coyotes' 17.7 assists per game ranks 18th.
- The Coyotes' has the 22nd-best scoring offense in the nation at 78.8 points per game.
Omaha-South Dakota Series History
Omaha and South Dakota have a rivalry dating back to pre-NCAA in the days of the AIAW and continued through NCAA Division II era in the North Central Conference. The Mavericks trail the all-time series, 38-34. The Coyotes hold a 6-1 edge over the Maviercks since joining the Summit League in 2011.
Last season, USD swept the two-game conference series. The Coyotes defeated the Mavericks in Omaha, 64-48, on Jan. 2, 2015. USD completed the sweep with an 83-69 win in Vermillion on Feb. 12, 2015.
Fantastic Fresh Faces
This season, the Mavericks roster features five freshmen and eight underclassmen. The freshmen are Ellie Brecht, Sara Echelberry, Caroline Hogue, and Amber Vidal. Joining them are underclassmen Vanessa Barajas, Remy Davenport, and Marissa Preston.
So far this season, the group combined to play in 108 games with 45 starts (41.7%). The freshmen alone combined to play in 63 games with 15 starts. All told, the underclassmen have played in 1,917 minutes (63.4%), scored 618 points (62.9%), grabbed 265 rebounds (46.7%), dished out 117 assists (58.5%), had 76 blocks (90.5%), and had 49 steals (48.5%).
The freshmen have played in 1,008 minutes (33.3%) and scored 359 points (36.6%). They have also grabbed 157 boards (27.6%), dished out 70 assists (35.0%), blocked 45 shots (53.6%) and have made 30 steals (29.7%).

- Caroline Hogue is in the Top 15 nationally in blocked shots. The freshman center is 11th in the nation with 40 blocks this year. Josie Stockill of Colgate is the national leader with 57.
- Hogue is also ranked 22nd in blocks per game with 2.67. Stockill leads the nation with 4.38 blocks per game.
- Mikaela Shaw ranks 20th nationally in field goals made (109) with Brittney Martin of Oklahoma State topping the category with 131.
- Shaw is also 55th in field goal percentage (52.9 percent), 50th in double-doubles (5), 30th in total points (280), and 44th in points per game (18.7).
NCAA Stat Rankings – Team
- Omaha ranks 10th nationally in blocked shots (84) and 20th nationally in blocked shots per game (5.6). Morehead State is the national leader with 113 blocks, while Oregon State is the national leader in blocks per game (7.1).
- The Mavericks rank 53rd in made 3-pointers with 101 makes and are 70th in 3-point field-goal percentage (34.1%).
- UNO is ranked 58th nationally in fewest turnovers per game (14.5). Villanova commits the fewest turnovers per game (7.5).
Davenport Earns Player of the Week Honors
Sophomore guard Remy Davenport was named Summit League and College Sports Madness Player of the Week after helping the Omaha women's basketball team to a 2-0 week.
The 5-foot-8 guard averaged 25 points, six rebounds, 1.5 assists, one block, and one steal per game last week. Davenport shot 52 percent (13-of-25) from the field, 57.9 percent (11-of-19) from downtown and 92.9 percent (13-of-14) at the free throw line.
In the Dec. 30 win over North Dakota State, the sophomore scored 23 points with five rebounds and no turnovers.
Davenport added 27 points with seven rebounds, two assists and two steals in the victory over Western Illinois on Sunday. She hit four free throws in the final 22 seconds to help secure the victory.
She leads the team in 3-pointers made (33) and is second on the team in scoring (10.7 ppg) and free throws made (25).
Plateau Reached
Mikaela Shaw reached the 1,000 career point and 500 career rebound plateau this season. She accomplished the scoring feat with a 21-point effort against South Dakota State. Shaw now is 26th on the all-time scoring chart. The career mark for points in a career is 1,939 in 107 games by Niece Jochims (1975-9).
Shaw now has 551 career rebounds and ranks 16th all-time. The career mark for rebounds in a career is 1,148 in 107 games by Niece Jochims (1975-9).
This season, Shaw is averaging 18.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.
