OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha women's tennis team had a quick turnaround Saturday morning as it hosted North Dakota for a non-conference matchup at Koch Tennis Center, with UND winning 4-0. The Mavericks are now 5-12 (2-3 Summit League) on the season, while North Dakota improves to 9-10 (4-5 Big Sky).
The match opened with doubles play, where freshman Michelle Lo and senior Jacqueline Baude picked up their eighth doubles victory of the year at No. 1. The duo was triumphant 6-3 over Lacey Sprinkel and Callie Ronkowski.
At No. 2, sophomore Kenzie Hill and junior Molly Matricardi battled but were ousted 7-5 by Faith Lee and Sophie Allen-Fischer. North Dakota then secured the point after sophomores Allison Johnson and Maddie Holscher were defeated at No. 3 by Mimi Yunker and Kathleen Preston, 6-2.
North Dakota followed by taking the next three singles points to secure the match victory over the Mavs Yunker was victorious over Hill, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 4 singles, as was Faith Lee at No. 5 singles over sophomore Rebecca Stafford, 6-1, 6-1. Holscher was once again slotted in the No. 6 position but was defeated 6-2, 6-2 by Kathleen Preston.
Lo (No. 1), Matricardi (No. 2) and Baude (No. 3) were all ahead during their matches but did not finish.
Omaha hits the road again next Thursday, April 9, visiting South Dakota. The match is slated for a Noon start time in Vermillion, S.D.
