Mavericks, Panthers Meet in Midweek Clash

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha softball team travels to Cedar Falls, Iowa for their final non-conference game of the season against Northern Iowa on Tuesday.  The Mavericks and Panthers are set to start at 5:00 p.m. and links to live stats are available on OMavs.com.

Leading off for Omaha

  • Omaha put together back-to-back eight hit games against IUPUI over the weekend.
  • Omaha hit two home runs in the opener against IUPUI, it was the 12th time this season UNO has hit multiple home runs in a game.
  • The Mavericks had two batters have multiple hit games against IUPUI.
  • Omaha left 11 runners on base against IUPUI.
  • The Mavericks did not commit an error over the weekend.

1.      Catcher Campbell Ditto threw out her eighth runner of the season in the opener against IUPUI.

2.      Allie Mathewson hit a lead-off home run against IUPUI.

3.      Nicole Warren went 2-for-3 in the opener against IUPUI with a solo home run.

4.      Mathewson and Warren each had two hits in game one against the Jaguars.

5.      Ditto went 3-for-3 in game two, while Tara Trede went 2-for-2.

6.      Sydney Hames hit a solo homer run in game two.

About the Mavericks

Omaha will be playing its final road game of the 2015 season Tuesday night in Cedar Falls, Iowa against Northern Iowa.  Over the weekend, the Mavericks were swept by Summit League foe IUPUI.  Omaha currently is 21-25 overall and 5-8 in Summit League contests.  UNO is 9-4 at home, but own a 3-11 road record with a 9-10 mark at neutral sites.

Allie Mathewson and Tonya Peterson have the top two averages at the plate for Omaha.  Mathewson leads the way with a .310 average with six doubles, 12 home runs and 30 RBI.  She has also stolen 11 bases this season.  Peterson is batting .303 with 10 doubles and 27 RBI.  Lizzie Noble leads the team with 32 RBI.  Noble has six doubles and six home runs on the season with a .528 slugging percent.

In the circle, freshman Jaylee Hinrichs is 12-11 overall with a 3.57 ERA and 103 strikeouts.  Hinrichs has earned two Summit League Pitcher of the Week honors.  Senior Kat Barrow owns a 7-9 mark with a 3.15 ERA.  The senior has 80 strikeouts this season along with two shut-outs.  Carly Nielsen and Lizzie Noble each have picked up wins this season.  Nielsen also has the teams only save.

Collectively, the Mavericks are hitting .258 with 48 doubles, five triples, 48 homeruns and 193 RBI.  Omaha has a .432 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .341.  UNO is 40-for-46 in stolen base attempts and has drawn a total of 123 walks.  The Mavericks' pitching staff has posted a 3.81 ERA, good for the third-lowest mark in the league, in 292.0 innings of work while striking out 207 and allowing 95 walks.  In the circle, Omaha has six shut-outs and threw back-to-back shutouts against Fort Wayne on March 21-22.

Mastering the Summit

  • Allie Mathewson is fourth in the league with 12 home runs this season and ranks 13th in RBI with 29.
  • Campbell Ditto is 11th in the league with eight home runs and 26th with 20 RBI.
  • Tonya Peterson has drawn 29 walks this season to lead the league.  Peterson is 17th with 27 RBI. 
  • Ditto is in fourth in the league with 25 walks.
  • Allie Mathewson is tenth in the league with 37 runs scored, 11th in stolen bases with 11, and 11th with 47 hits.
  • Lizzie Noble has 32 RBI this season, which ranks 11th in the Summit League.
  • Pitcher Kat Barrow has pitched 115.2 innings which ranks ninth in the conference.  Barrow has a 3.21 ERA and 80 strikeouts which ranks fourth and seventh in the league.  She ranks 11th in games won (7) and sixth in complete games (10).
  • Pitcher Jaylee Hinrichs is third in the league with 12 wins.  Hinrichs' four shut-outs this season rank third in the league.  Hinrichs ranks third in the league with 103 strikeouts.

Series Information

Omaha and Northern Iowa will be meeting for the 13th time on Tuesday.  The Panthers lead the series 8-4 with the last meeting coming in 2012.  UNI defeated UNO 3-2 at the Northern Iowa tournament. 

A Look at Northern Iowa

Northern Iowa comes into Tuesday's contest with an 18-24 overall mark and an 8-7 home record.  Rikki Alzaraz leads the team with a .309 batting average and eight home runs.  Kennedy Bailey leads the Panthers' with 25 RBI.

Chelsea Ross leads UNI's pitchers with a 15-13 record and a 3.66 ERA.  Ross has struck out 164 batters this season.

On Deck

The Mavericks return home for the final series of the year on Saturday and Sunday May 2-3.  Prior to Saturday's first game against Western Illinois, Omaha will honor seniors Kat Barrow, Allie Mathewson, Carly Nielsen, and Tonya Peterson.
