Mavericks, Jaguars Meet in Indianapolis

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha softball team wraps up the road portion of its Summit League schedule this weekend with a three game set against IUPUI in Indianapolis, Ind.  The Mavericks and Jaguars will open the series with a doubleheader on Friday starting at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., before wrapping up the series on Saturday with a single game set to start at 10:00 a.m.  Links to live stats are available on OMavs.com.

Leading off for Omaha

  • Omaha had 13 hits against Iowa State, including three extra base hits.  The 13 hits were the most this season for the Mavericks.
  • The Mavericks had two batsmen hit by a pitch against ISU.  It was the seventh time this season that this has happened.
  • UNO had nine RBI against the Cyclones, which is the third highest number of runs batted in this season against any team.
  • This was the 10th time this season that Maverick pitchers struck out seven or more batters in a single game.
  • This was the 11th multiple home run game of the season for Omaha.
  • Iowa State had to use four pitchers against Omaha on Wednesday evening.

D.Y.K.?  (Did You Know?)

1.      Megan May went 3-for-4 against Iowa State.  It was the second time this season she has had three hits in a single game.

2.      May and Allie Mathewson combined for six RBI against the Cyclones.

3.      Mathewson and Tonya Peterson each homered for Omaha.

4.      Pitcher Jaylee Hinrichs picked up her 12th win of the season against ISU.  Hinrichs also struck out seven batters.

5.      Peterson was hit by a pitch for the 32nd time in her career against Iowa State.

About the Mavericks

Omaha enters this weekend coming off an impressive 9-4 win over Big 12 foe Iowa State.  The Mavericks pounded out 13 hits in the victory.  Five different UNO batters had multiple hits, led by freshman Megan May's three singles.  Allie Mathewson and Tonya Peterson each hit home runs in the win.

Omaha improved to 21-23 overall and hold a 5-6 mark in Summit League play.  UNO is 9-4 at home and 9-10 at neutral site games, but are only 3-9 on the road.

Allie Mathewson and Tonya Peterson lead the Mavericks with a .313 batting average this season.  Mathewson also leads the team with 11 home runs and 11 steals.   Peterson leads the team with 10 doubles and 29 walks.  She has driven in 27 runs this season.  Lizzie Noble leads the team with 32 RBI.

In the circle, freshman Jaylee Hinrichs is 12-10 overall with a 3.58 ERA and 100 strikeouts.  Hinrichs has earned two Summit League Pitcher of the Week honors.  Senior Kat Barrow owns a 7-8 mark with a 2.82 ERA.  The senior has 80 strikeouts this season along with two shut-outs.  Carly Nielsen and Lizzie Noble each have picked up wins this season.  Nielsen also has the teams only save.

Collectively, the Mavericks are hitting .257 with 48 doubles, five triples, 45 homeruns and 187 RBI.  Omaha has a .432 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .343.  UNO is 40-for-46 in stolen base attempts and has drawn a total of 122 walks.  The Mavericks' pitching staff has posted a 3.75 ERA, good for the third-lowest mark in the league, in 280.0 innings of work while striking out 202 and allowing 90 walks.  In the circle, Omaha has six shut-outs and threw back-to-back shutouts against Fort Wayne on March 21-22.

Mastering the Summit

  • Allie Mathewson is fifth in the league with 11 home runs this season and ranks 13th in RBI with 28.
  • Campbell Ditto is 11th in the league with eight home runs and 25th with 20 RBI.
  • Tonya Peterson has drawn 29 walks this season to lead the league.  Peterson is 15th with 27 RBI. 
  • Ditto is in third in the league with 25 walks.
  • Allie Mathewson is sixth in the league with 36 runs scored, tenth in stolen bases with 11, and 11th with 45 hits.
  • Lizzie Noble has 32 RBI this season, which ranks seventh in the Summit League.
  • Pitcher Kat Barrow has pitched 114 innings which ranks fifth in the conference.  Barrow has a 2.89 ERA and 80 strikeouts which ranks fourth and fifth in the league.  She ranks ninth in games won (7) and fifth in complete games (10).
  • Pitcher Jaylee Hinrichs is third in the league with 12 wins.  Hinrichs' four shut-outs this season rank third in the league.  Hinrichs ranks third in the league with 100 strikeouts.

Series Information

Omaha and IUPUI will be meeting for the seventh time in the history of each program.  The Mavericks lead the all-time series 5-1.  Last season, Omaha took two of three games at home against IUPUI. 

A Look at IUPUI

IUPUI is in the midst of a record breaking season.  The Jaguars are 28-12 overall and 7-5 in the Summit League.  IUPUI extended its current winning streak to five straight and seven-in-a-row in non-conference games.  The 28 wins are the most in the Division-I era.

In the circle, Brooke Boetjer leads the team with a 17-9 overall record and a 2.22 ERA with 99 strikeouts.  Her counterpart, Emili Escamilla has an 11-3 record with a team-low 2.11 ERA and 105 punch-outs.

IUPUI has four batters who are hitting over .300 on the season.  Roni Patterson leads the way with a .356 average over 40 games with nine home runs and 28 RBI.  Ali Mosier is hitting .344 with 12 home runs and 32 RBI.  Mosier has a team-best 24 stolen bases.

Amanda Rivera is in her third season at the helm of the IUPUI program.  Rivera owns a 70-67 career record with the Jaguars.
