Mavs Square Off against Cyclones in Non-Conference Action

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha softball team travels to Ames, Iowa, for a Wednesday contest against the Cyclones before traveling to Indianapolis, Indiana, for a three-game set at IUPUI.  Wednesday's contest against Iowa State is set for 4:00 p.m.  Links to live stats and video will be available on OMavs.com.

Leading off for Omaha

About the Mavericks

Omaha is looking to break a three-game losing streak on Wednesday afternoon in Ames, Iowa.  The Mavs are 20-23 overall and 5-4 in conference play.  UNO is 9-4 at home and 9-10 at neutral site games, but are only 2-9 on the road.

Allie Mathewson has a .310 average with 10 home runs and 26 RBI to lead UNO this season.  The senior also has six doubles and has swiped 11 bases.  Tonya Peterson has a .304 average with a team-beat nine doubles.  Peterson also has driven in 26 runs.  Lizzie Noble had a team-high 32 RBI with six home runs and a .289 average.  Catcher Campbell Ditto has hit eight home runs this season with 20 RBI.

In the circle, freshman Jaylee Hinrichs is 11-10 overall with a 3.55 ERA and 93 strikeouts.  Hinrichs has earned two Summit League Pitcher of the Week honors.  Senior Kat Barrow owns a 7-8 mark with a 2.82 ERA.  The senior has 80 strikeouts this season along with two shut-outs.  Carly Nielsen and Lizzie Noble each have picked up wins this season.  Nielsen also has the teams only save.

Collectively, the Mavericks are hitting .252 with 47 doubles, five triples, 43 homeruns and 178 RBI.  Omaha has a .426 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .337.  UNO is 40-for-46 in stolen base attempts and has drawn a total of 116 walks.  The Mavericks' pitching staff has posted a 3.77 ERA, good for the third-lowest mark in the league, in 273.0 innings of work while striking out 195 and allowing 88 walks.  In the circle, Omaha has six shut-outs and threw back-to-back shutouts against Fort Wayne on March 21-22.

Mastering the Summit

  • Pitcher Jaylee Hinrichs is third in the league with 11 wins.  Hinrichs' four shut-outs this season rank third in the league.  Hinrichs ranks fourth in the league with 93 strikeouts.

Series Information

UNO and ISU will be meeting with the 11th time in the history of each program.  Iowa State leads the series 7-3.

Last season, the Mavs defeated the Cyclones, 3-2.  Lizzie Noble went 1-for-4 with a pair of RBI, while Allie Mathewson went 2-for-4 with a run scored. 

A Look at the Cyclones

Iowa State enters Wednesday's game with a 21-20 overall and a 1-8 mark in the Big 12.  ISU is 8-5 at home and 11-5 at neutral sites this season, but are 2-10 on the road.  The Cyclones were swept over the weekend by Texas.

The Cyclones have five players hitting over .300 this season.  Brittany Gomez leads the way for the Iowa State offense with a .444 average in 41 games.  Gomez has swiped 23 bases on 27 attempts.  Maddie Reese leads the team with nine homeruns, while Lexi Slater has a team-best 34 RBI.

In the circle, Stacy Roggentien leads the team with a 3.56 ERA and owns an 8-5 record with one save and 74 strikeouts.  Katie Johnson is 9-10 on the season with two saves and a 4.69 ERA. 

Stacy Gemeinhardt-Cesler enters her 10th season as the Cyclone head coach in the 2015 season.  Prior to her stint in Ames, Gemeinhardt-Cesler spent four years at Emporia State.  In her 14 years as a head coach, she owns a 381-383-1 career record.

On Deck

Omaha wraps up the road portion of its Summit League schedule this weekend with a three-game set at IUPUI.  The Mavericks and Jaguars will open the series with a doubleheader on Friday starting at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., before wrapping up the series on Saturday with a single game set to start at 10:00 a.m.

At the moment, Omaha currently sits in fourth place in the Summit league standings, while IUPUI is two and a half games ahead in third place.

NCAA Women's Softball RPI Rankings Released

The fourth NCAA RPI Rankings were released on Monday and Summit League leaders North Dakota State (35-7) are ranked 51st overall.  IUPUI (27-12) moved up from 129th to 139rd this week. 

South Dakota (17-22-1) climbed from 182nd to 157th this week.  Western Illinois (15-18) comes in at 172nd overall.  Omaha (20-23) dropped to 182nd overall, while South Dakota State (14-23) drops to 222nd overall.  Rounding out the Summit League is Fort Wayne (3-39, 260th).

Topping the All-Time Charts

  • Senior Allie Mathewson ranks fourth in school history with a .672 slugging percentage.  Tracy Carey (1994-95) holds the school record with a .737 slugging percentage.
  • Mathewson ranks 11th in school history with a .358 batting average.  Deb Baetsie (1993-94) holds the school record with a .450 batting average.
  • Mathewson also is sixth in school history with 11 triples.
  • Mathewson has hit the third most home runs in school history with 32, while junior Campbell Ditto is ninth with 26 homers.  Amber Lutmer (2011-14) holds the Maverick record with 51 home runs.
  • Ditto ranks ninth all-time in walks with 71.  Amber Lutmer owns the school record of 121 walks in a career.  Ditto also ranks 10th all-time in on-base percentage with a .427 average.  Deb Baetsle (1993-94) owns the career mark of .499.
  • Senior Tonya Peterson has been hit by a pitch 31 times in her Omaha career and holds the school record.  Peterson also ranks 11th all-time with 68 walks.
  • Kat Barrow ranks ninth all-time in most strikeouts per seven innings.  She averages 4.74 strikeouts.  Lindsey Slocum (2007-11) owns the career mark at 7.56 strikeouts per seven innings.
  • Jaylee Hinrichs ranks fourth all-time in strikeouts per seven innings.  She averages 5.80 strikeouts per seven innings.
  • Opponents are battings only .261 against Barrow for her career, which ranks her 11th in the all-time charts.
  • Hinrichs is limiting opposing batters to a .243 average, which is ninth all-time.
