OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha women's tennis was hosted crosstown rival Creighton Saturday afternoon at Koch Tennis Center, falling 5-2. The Mavericks are now 5-14 (2-4 Summit League) on the season, while the Bluejays improve to 10-9 (0-2 BIG EAST).
The Jays got off to a hot start, sweeping all three doubles matches. Freshman Michelle Lo and senior Jacqueline Baude were slotted in the No. 1 position but were upended 8-6 by Creighton duo Jennie Hartjes and Darby Rosette. Junior Molly Matricardi and sophomore Kenzie Hill were defeated in a close match as well, falling to Sam Anderson and Liz Vermillion, 8-7.
The Mavs secured two points in the singles portion of the afternoon. Lo was victorious in her match at No. 1, defeating Hartjes 6-4, 6-2. It marked the freshman's seventh singles victory of the season.
Baude was also victorious at the No. 3 singles spot. The Papillion, Neb., native picked up her fifth singles win of the year by knocking off Rosette, 7-6, 7-6.
Matricardi lost her match at No. 2, which went three sets as Katherine Nelson took the win, 2-6, 6-1, 7-6. Hill dropped a decision at No. 4, 6-0, 6-0 in straight sets to Amanda Noonan, and sophomore Maddie Holscher competed in the No. 5 singles spot but lost her contest 6-1, 6-0 to Natalie Miller. Sophomore Rebecca Stafford filled the No. 6 spot in the Maverick lineup, falling 6-3, 6-4.
Omaha has its season finale set for Monday, April 13, hosting South Dakota State at Koch Tennis Center at Noon. It marks the final home match for Baude, Omaha's lone senior on the 2015 roster.
