SIOUX FALLS, S.D.—The Omaha women's tennis team was back on the road Thursday as it headed to Sioux Falls, S.D., facing South Dakota. The Mavs were defeated 5-2 and move to 5-13 (2-4 Summit League), while the Coyotes jump to 7-7 (3-2 Summit League) on the year.
Omaha got off to a hot start by winning the doubles point. UNO's No. 1 doubles duo of freshman Michelle Lo and senior Jacqueline Baude won their match 8-5. The Mavs secured the point after junior Molly Matricardi and sophomore Kenzie Hill won their match at No. 2, 8-7.
Lo was the only Mav to win her singles match -- her sixth singles win of the year at No. 1 -- by defeating Milica Pavlovic, 6-3, 6-1.
South Dakota took the next five singles matches. Matricardi was knocked off by Yuliya Sidenko 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2. At No. 3, Baude battled but was knocked off 6-4, 6-3 by Rymma Maslova.
Hill lost her match at No. 4 6-0, 6-3 to Dragana Brankovic. Holscher played her first match of the season at the five spot but was ousted 6-0,6-1. Sophomore Allison Johnson was also knocked off at the No. 6 position by Yamini Reddy 6-3, 6-3.
Omaha is back at home Saturday, April 9, hosting in-state foe Creighton. The match is slated for a Noon start at Koch Tennis Center.
