Barrow's One-Hitter Completes Sweep of Fort Wayne

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha softball completed a three game sweep over Summit League foe Fort Wayne on Sunday morning at Westside Field at Westbrook.  UNO defeated IPFW, 5-0.  The Mavericks improved to 15-13 overall and 3-0 in Summit League play, while the Mastodons dropped to 0-23 for the season and 0-3 in league play.

Omaha wraps up an eight game home stand next weekend against defending Summit League champs North Dakota State.  The Mavericks welcome the Bison to Westside Field at Westbrook for a double header on Saturday, March 28 starting at noon.  Sunday will feature one game set to start at 11:00 a.m.

Omaha 5, Fort Wayne 0

Omaha scored two runs in the second inning and added three more in the fourth inning for the 5-0 victory.  The Mavericks were efficient at the plate scoring five runs on six hits, while pitcher Kat Barrow (7-4) allowed one hit and a walk with six strikeouts.

The Mavs opened the scoring in the second inning.  Lizzie Noble drew a one out walk to give Omaha its first baserunner of the game.  Nicole Warren laced a home run to left field to score Noble and give UNO a 2-0 lead.

Omaha added three insurance runs with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning to put the game out of reach.  Kelly Pattison started the inning with a single off of the Fort Wayne pitcher, Kaitlyn Biere.  Biere would retire the next two batters she faced.  Pattison stole second before Warren walked.  Tara Trede brought home Pattison on an infield single.  Allie Mathewson lined a double over the center fielders head allowing Trede and Warren to score and put the Mavs up 5-0.

After allowing a walk to lead-off the game, Barrow retired 20 straight Fort Wayne batters before allowing a single to left field by Emily Olszewski.  The righty would retire the next IPFW batter to end the game.

Mathewson had a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate with a double and two RBIs for the Mavericks.  Warren went 1-for-2 at the plate with a home run and two RBIs.  Pattison added a single and a stolen base, while Trede had a single with an RBI and a run scored.
