Box Score PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- The Omaha baseball team played its final game at the Snowbird Classic on Sunday, falling 8-2 to Mount St. Mary's at North Charlotte Regional Park. The Mavericks are now 5-7 (0-0 Summit League) on the year, while MSM improves to 2-0.
Freshman
Riley Sweeney (0-1) earned his first collegiate start, throwing 3.1 innings. He allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three batters. Chad Diehl (1-0) earned the win for the Mount, going 6.0 innings while surrendering one run on three hits and four walks with four strikeouts.
Junior
Alex Schultz led Omaha at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a run scored. Junior
Clayton Taylor and freshman
Cole Patterson each drove in a run, while junior
Alex Mortensen scored UNO's only other run.
Mount St. Mary's scored a run in the first, third, fourth and fifth frames for a 4-0 lead before Omaha tallied its first score. The Mavericks made it 4-1 in the top of the sixth before MSM responded with four runs in the sixth to go up 8-1. The Mavericks managed one more run in the ninth, bringing the final tally to 8-2.
