LAWRENCE, Kan. – Senior right-hander Kat Barrow allowed no earned runs and just one hit in a complete game victory to highlight the Omaha softball team's split in the Jayhawk Invitational on Saturday in Lawrence, Kan.
Omaha posted a 1-0 win over Atlantic 10 opponent Saint Louis in the opener, but suffered a 5-0 setback to Western Athletic Conference foe Kansas City in game two.
The Mavericks are now 10-12 on the season, the Kangaroos improve to 12-12 and the Billikens drop to 15-7.
Omaha wraps up tournament play on Sunday afternoon against the University of Kansas. First pitch against the Jayhawks is set for 2:30 p.m. Stats for the game are available on OMavs.com.
Omaha 1, Saint Louis 0
In the opener, Barrow allowed just one hit, a two-out double in the top of the second. Barrow retired 16 of the next 17 batters to preserve the shutout and earn her fourth win of the season.
The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth. Megan May opened the inning with a double to center field. May was pinch ran for by Kylie Schwarting who advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Bailey Schulenberg. Schwarting scored after tagging up on Sydney Hames foul out to right field.
May and Lia Mancuso had the only hits off Saint Louis starter Brianna Lore.
Barrow (4-3) pitched a complete game shut-out allowing one hit with one walk and seven strikeouts.
Kansas City 5, Omaha 0
In Saturday's nightcap, Kansas City pitcher Katie Kelley allowed four hits and no runs over seven innings of work.
The Kangaroos scored five runs through four innings to chase pitcher Jaylee Hinrichs (4-4) from the game with 3.1 innings pitched, seven hits, and four earned runs.
Campbell Ditto and Tonya Peterson each hit doubles, while Bailey Schulenberg and Tara Trede each hit singles.
Kelly and Emily Beven each hit two-run homeruns to lead UMKC. The Roos scored two runs in the bottom of the third, then added three in the bottom of the fourth for the 5—0 victory.
Kat Barrow relieved Hinrichs with one out in the fourth and pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing no runs, three hits with three strikeouts.
