HAMMOND, Louisiana – The Omaha softball team dropped two games on Saturday at the Tangi Tourism Lion Classic. The Mavericks fell 5-1 to Southeastern Louisiana and 9-1 to UT Arlington.
The Mavs (1-3) wrap up play on Sunday against Alcorn State at 10:00 a.m.
Southeastern Louisiana 5, Omaha 1
Southeastern Louisiana pitcher Taylor Bishop limited the Mavericks to one hit, and Katie Lacour had three hits to pace the Lions.
Nicole Warren hit her second homerun of the season to account for the lone UNO run. Allie Mathewson and Campbell Ditto each drew walks to give Omaha baserunners.
Lizzie Noble (0-1) took the loss, throwing 4.2 innings with five hits and one earned run, four walks, and three strikeouts. Carly Nielsen pitched 1.1 innings with no runs allowed. Nielsen allowed one hit and walked two batters.
The Lions took a 1-0 lead in the first inning off a Maverick throwing error. Three UNO errors in the fourth inning led to three more Southeastern Louisiana runs. Warren got Omaha on the board in the top of the fifth with a homerun to left field. The Lions got the run back in the bottom of the fifth to make the final score 5-1.
UT Arlington 9, Omaha 1 (five innings)
UT Arlington jumped on the Mavs with two runs in the first inning and took a 6-1 run lead after three innings. Lia Mancuso was hit by a pitch and was brought home by a Nicole Warren triple to get UNO on the board. UTA added three runs in the bottom of the fourth to put the game out of reach.
Omaha was limited to four hits on the day. Warren had a triple and an RBI. Allie Mathewson, Sydney Hames, and Tara Trede each had singles.
Kat Barrow (1-1) started and took the loss. Barrow pitched 2.1 innings with four hits, four walks, and five earned runs. Jaylee Hinrichs pitched 0.1 innings with one hit, three walks, and an earned run. Lizzie Noble finished the game for Omaha. Noble pitched the final 1.1 innings with two hits, a walk, and three earned runs.
