Senior Day Set for Omaha's Final Game at Sapp Fieldhouse

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's basketball team plays its final home game of the season this weekend, hosting Denver on Saturday, Feb. 28.  Tipoff is set for 2 p.m., and the game will be the Mavericks' final contest at Sapp Fieldhouse before they move into their new facility next season.  The game will be broadcast live on 1180 Zone 2 with Jon Green calling the action.  Fans also have the ability to stream audio on their smartphones by downloading NRG Media's app “1620 The Zone,” and links to live stats, audio and video will be available on OMavs.com.

The Mavericks will also honor its seniors, Felicia Anderson, Lanese Bough, Cathleen Cox, and Taijhe Kelly, with senior day activities prior to the game.

The Teams

Omaha (9-18, 4-11 Summit League) hosted Fort Wayne on Thursday evening at Sapp Fieldhouse.  The Mavericks used a season-high 15 points from Madi Robson for a 70-61 victory.

Denver (8-21, 5-10 Summit League) lost at North Dakota State, 87-68, on Thursday evening in Fargo, North Dakota.

Scouting the Pioneers

Denver (8-21, 5-10 Summit League) has lost four straight games and own a 2-10 mark on the road this season. Senior Morgan Van Riper-Rose poured in 16 points and freshman Kaila Burroughs added 15 points, but it wasn't enough as the University of Denver lost to North Dakota State on Thursday night at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.  The Bison outlasted Denver, 87-68.

Paige Bradley leads the way for Denver.  Bradley averages 13.2 points per game and 4.0 rebounds per game.  She also averages 4.5 assists per game.  Van Riper-Rose averages 11.0 points per game, while Alecia Espinoza chips in 7.2 points per game and a team-leading 6.8 rebounds per game.

Kerry Cremeans is in her third season as the head coach at the University of Denver.  Cremeans owns a career mark of 37-75 at DU.

  • Omaha defeated Fort Wayne on Thursday evening at Sapp Fieldhouse, 70-61.
  • Madi Robson had a team-high 15 points, all coming in the second half.  Robson was 2-of-2 from the field and 11-of -14 at the free throw line.  She also dished out five assists and grabbed three rebounds.
  • Remy Davenport added 11 points on 4-of-12 shooting, including three treys. 
  • Taijhe Kelly chipped in 10 points, five rebounds, and blocked four shots. 
  • Mikaela Shaw had nine points and nine rebounds.
  • Omaha lost to South Dakota State on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 60-49.
  • Taijhe Kelly had three blocked shots and set the UNO record for blocks in a career with 293.  The previous record of 291 was held by Maverick Hall of Famer Mary Henke Anderson.
  • Shaw led all scorers with her sixth double-double of the season with 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. 
  • Robson added nine points, four assists, and three rebounds. 
  • Lanese Bough scored eight points, while Davenport chipped in six.
  • The Mavs defeated North Dakota State in a 73-65 decision in Fargo on Feb. 14.
  • Shaw recorded a career-high 38 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds earning her the Summit League Player of the Week award.
  • Davenport contributed 15 points and six rebounds.
  • Kelly recorded four blocks on the game and had six points.
  • Robson dished out 10 assists and had one steal for the Mavs.
  • Shaw leads the Mavericks in scoring and rebounding this season. She averages 15.2 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.
  • Davenport is second on the team in scoring averaging 9.2 points per game.  She has made a team high 56 three-pointers this season.  Her 59 three-pointers is tied for eighth most in a single season in Maverick history.
  • Robson leads the team in assists (105) and Lanese Bough leads in steals (51). Bough is also second on the team in rebounds (138).
  • Shaw has scored in double-digits 18 times this season, which is the most on the team. She has scored in double digits seven times in the last eight games and has had six double-doubles this season as well.
  • Kelly leads the team with 83 blocked shots and has blocked four or more shots in a game 11 times this season.  Against South Dakota State, Kelly set the school record for blocked shots in a career.
  • Omaha is 1-4 against teams appearing in the CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25. The Mavs lost to Northern Colorado (RV), North Dakota (RV), South Dakota (RV), and South Dakota State (#14); but defeated #14 Bakersfield, 80-68.

The Series

Saturday marks the seventh all-time meeting between the two programs.  Each team has won three games in the series.  Earlier this season in Denver, Colo., the Pioneers defeated the Mavs 60-53.  Brianna Bogard had 19 points, while Taijhe Kelly grabbed 15 rebounds.
