Ellis, Minic Lead Mavs over Hastings, 6-1

Omaha, Neb. – The Omaha men's tennis team remained perfect at home with a 6-1 win over Hastings College on Saturday afternoon at the Miracle Hill Tennis Center.  Omaha improved to 3-5 on the season, while Hastings fell to 0-5.

“The guys really stepped up today,” commented head coach Tyson Thomas.  “We had to shuffle our normal lineup with a minor injury to Erik Anderson and everyone was up to the challenge.”

The Mavericks got off to a quick start by sweeping the doubles action.  Marko Minic and John Ellis dispatched Mark Gueswell and Tyler Sandvick at number two doubles, 8-3.  Colin Buckley and Nathan Greteman defeated McKay Inman and Isaac Mertens at number one doubles, 8-5.  Ignace Warson and Lukas Vanzura survived a tough match and won in a tiebreaker against Razvan Dorbin and Matt Case, 8-7 (7-2).

In singles action, Ellis and Minic each won their matches by the identical scores of 6-1, 6-2.  Warson struggled in the first set against Leland Dexter at number four singles, but came away with a 7-5, 6-0 victory.  Buckley defeated Inman at number one singles 6-3, 6-1.

Greteman picked up a hard fought win at number five singles against Dorbin, 6-3, 6-4.  Hastings picked up its lone victory on the day when Ben Petry defeated Vanzura, 8-6.

"Our guys looked a lot more comfortable out there today," commented Thomas.  "As we expected, this team is improving with every match."
