Mavs Tennis Sweep Nebraska Wesleyan, 7-0

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's tennis team cruised in its 2015 home opener, topping Nebraska Wesleyan, 7-0, Saturday afternoon at the Miracle Hill Tennis Center.

Omaha improved to 1-2 on the season, while Nebraska Wesleyan drops to 0-2.  The Mavericks have now swept the Prairie Wolves three straight years.

“I challenged our guys to play with a higher level of intensity than last week and they did,” commented head coach Tyson Thomas

The Mavericks opened the match by taking the doubles point, winning all three matches.  John Ellis and James McManus got things started with a 6-0 win over Jordan Pieper and Christian Cannon at number three doubles.  Erik Anderson and Ignace Warson kept the momentum going at number two doubles with a 6-0 win over Hale Breit and Andrew Finkner.  Colin Buckley and Nathan Greteman completed the sweep with a 6-0 victory over Trevor Milburn and Pedro Bethlem at number one doubles.

Omaha then swept all six singles matches, all in straight sets.  Buckley was the first winner for the Mavs, defeating Milburn at number one singles, 6-0, 6-1.  Warson put the Mavs up 3-0 with a straight set win over Pieper at number five singles, 6-0, 6-1.  Ellis clinched the match for the Mavericks with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Breit at number three singles.

Marko Minic did not drop a game on his way to a 6-0, 6-0 win at number four singles over Finkner.  Anderson upended Bethlem at the number two singles spot, 6-1, 6-1.  Greteman completed the singles sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Cannon at number six singles.

“The guys played really well today,” said Thomas.  “We were very focused and cleaned up some things from last weekend.  I am really proud of this team.”

Omaha travels to Utah next weekend for a pair of matches.  The Mavs square off against Brigham Young University in Provo on Friday, January 30 at 6:00 p.m. (MT).  UNO faces Weber State on Saturday, January 31 in Ogden at 3:00 p.m. (MT).
