Mavs Start Summit League Road Trip Against Oral Roberts

The Game

     The Omaha women's basketball team starts a three-game Summit League road trip starting on Saturday, January 24 in Tulsa, Okla. against Oral Roberts.  Tipoff from the Mabee Center is set for 2:00 p.m.  Links to live stats, audio and video will be available on OMavs.com.

The Teams

     Omaha (6-12, 1-5 Summit League) lost to North Dakota State on Thursday, Jan. 22 at Sapp Fieldhouse, 77-60.

     Oral Roberts (9-10, 3-3 Summit League) defeated Western Illinois, 76-73, on Saturday, Jan. 17 at the Mabee Center.

Scouting the Golden Eagles

     Oral Roberts comes into Saturday's contest with a 9-10 overall record and a 3-3 record in the Summit League. The Golden Eagles are 8-1 at home this season and own a 3-0 home Summit League mark.  The Golden Eagles have been extremely tough at the Mabee Center the last two seasons starting this year off at 8-1 and posting a 28-6 record and .823 winning percentage since 2012-13 at home.

     Senior Vicky McIntyre leads ORU in points per game (12.3), rebounds per game (15.2), and blocks per game (4.6).  McIntyre leads the nation in rebounds per game and blocks per game.  Antoe' Jackson is second on the team in scoring (9.2 points per game), while Dorottya Balla averages 9.1 points per game.   

     The Golden Eagles average 63.6 points a game, while giving up 66.1 points per game.  ORU holds a 43.6-38.1 rebounding advantage over their opponents.

     Oral Roberts is led by third year head coach, Misti Cussen.  Cussen has compiled a career record of 36-43 at ORU.  She spent 16 seasons as an assistant with the Golden Eagles prior to being named head coach on April 27, 2012.

Mav Notes

  • Mikaela Shaw had a team high 19 points against NDSU Thursday night and 10 rebounds, recording her fifth double-double on the season.  She was 7-of-12 from the floor.
  • Senior center Taijhe Kelly blocked seven shots against NDSU which ties her season high. Kelly also grabbed eight rebounds against NDSU, while Sami Pawlak added eight points and four boards.
  • Omaha shot 41.8 percent from the floor (23-of-55) against NDSU and 29.4 percent (5-of-17) from 3-point range.    
  • Freshman guard Remy Davenport led the Mavericks in scoring for the second straight game against IUPUI.  Davenport had 13 points and six rebounds.
  • Madi Robson went 8-of-8 from the free throw line and had 12 points on Saturday, while Lanese Bough added 11 points and nine boards
  • Shaw leads the Mavericks in scoring and rebounding this season.  She averages 12.2 points and 9.1 rebounds per game.
  • Brianna Bogard is second on the team in scoring.  She is averaging 11.2 points per game.
  • Bough leads the team in assists (70) and steals (41).  She is also second on the team in rebounds (97).
  • Shaw has scored in double-digits 11 times this season, which is the most on the team.  She has had five double-doubles this season as well.
  • Kelly leads the team with 56 blocked shots.  She has blocked four or more shots in a game eight times this season.
  • Omaha is 1-4 against teams appearing in the CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25.  The Mavs lost to Northern Colorado (RV), North Dakota (RV), South Dakota (RV), and South Dakota State (#14); but defeated #14 Bakersfield, 80-68.
  • This season, Omaha averages 38.3 rebounds and 13.5 assists per game.
  • UNO leads the Summit League in field goal defense (37.0 pct.).  Omaha is second in blocked shots per game (5.0 bpg).  The Mavs are third in scoring defense (65.2 points per game).  UNO is fourth in 3-point field goal defense (31.0 pct) and steals per game (7.3).

The Series

     Saturday's game marks the third all-time meeting between the two programs.  The series is tied at 1-1.  The last meeting between the two programs came on Jan. 4, 1979, as Omaha pulled out a 64-63 victory.
