Mavs Welcome IUPUI to Sapp Fieldhouse

The Game

The Omaha women's basketball team welcomes IUPUI to Sapp Fieldhouse for a Summit League game on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 2 p.m.  Jon Green will have the radio call of the game on 1180 Zone 2, and fans can also stream the audio on their smartphones by downloading NRG Media's app “1620 The Zone.” Links to live stats, audio and video will be available on OMavs.com.

The Teams

Omaha (5-11, 0-4 Summit League) wrapped up a three game Summit League road trip with a loss to South Dakota State, 101-66, on Thursday night at Frost Arena.

IUPUI (7-10, 2-2 Summit League) lost at Oral Roberts on Thursday evening, 84-72.

Scouting the Jaguars

IUPUI comes into Saturday's game with a record of 7-10 (2-2 Summit League).  The Jaguars have alternated wins and losses in their first four conference games.  Against Oral Roberts, IUPUI was led by Jenna Gunn who went 8-of-13 from the floor and scored a career-high 19 points.  Martha Burse added 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Joining those two in double figures were Mikale Rogers and Shaquira Scott, who added 13 points apiece.

This season IUPUI is 7-2 at home, 0-2 at neutral sites, and 0-6 on the road.  The Jaguars average 68.1 points per game and shoot 44.7 percent (436-of-976) from the field.  They also average 38.9 rebounds per contest.

Shaquira Scott and Nevena Markovic each average 10.4 points per game to lead IUPUI.  Markovic also leads the team in rebounding (5.7 rebounds per game).  Gunn is second on the team in rebounding (5.2 per game).  Kelsi Byrd leads the team with 2.4 assists per game.

The Jaguars are led by fifth year head coach Austin Parkinson.  IUPUI has posted back-to-back 20-win seasons, two consecutive postseason appearances, and the program's first postseason victory in 2013-14 under Parkinson.  He was named the Summit League Coach-of-the-Year following the 2012-13 season.  Parkinson has a 67-75 career record with IUPUI.

  • Freshman Remy Davenport tied for a game high 22 points on Thursday evening against South Dakota State.  Davenport went 8-of-13 from the floor, including six 3-pointers.  She also grabbed five rebounds and blocked two shots.
  • Senior center Taijhe Kelly had a season high 13 points to go with six blocked shots and two rebounds against SDSU, while Bobbi Beckwith chipped in 10 points, three rebounds, and two assists.
  • Omaha shot 49 percent from the floor (25-of-51) against SDSU and 52.6 percent (10-of-19) from 3-point range.
  • Junior Brianna Bogard had a game-high 19 points against Denver on Jan. 8.  Bogard was 6-for-17 from the floor, including four 3-pointers.
  • Kelly had a game high 15 rebounds and blocked two shots.  Sophomore Mikaela Shaw added 12 points, eight rebounds, and five assists against the Pioneers.
  • Davenport led the Mavericks with 15 points off the bench against Western Illinois on Sunday, Jan. 4.  She was 5-for-13 from the field, including three 3-pointers.
  • Against Western Illinois, senior guard Lanese Bough had a career high 12 rebounds, while Kelly had nine rebounds and six blocked shots.
  • Shaw leads the Mavericks in scoring and rebounding this season.  She averages 12.2 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.
  • Bogard is second on the team in scoring.  She is averaging 11.8 points per game.
  • Bough leads the team in assists (64) and steals (34).  She is also second on the team in rebounds (85).
  • Shaw has scored in double-digits 10 times this season, which is the most on the team.  She has had four double-doubles this season as well.
  • Kelly leads the team with 45 blocked shots.  She has blocked four or more shots in a game six times this season.
  • Omaha is 1-4 against teams appearing in the CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25.  The Mavs lost to Northern Colorado (RV), North Dakota (RV), South Dakota (RV), and South Dakota State (#14); but defeated #14 Bakersfield, 80-68.
  • This season, Omaha averages 38.2 rebounds and 13.2 assists per game.
  • UNO leads the Summit League in field goal defense (36.9 pct.).  They are second in 3-point field goal percentage defense (30.2 pct) and blocked shots (4.8).  The Mavs are third in scoring defense (65.5 ppg).

The Series

Saturday's game marks the fifth all-time meeting between the two programs.  IUPUI holds a 4-0 advantage over the Mavs in those match-ups.
