Mavs Wrap Up Summit League Road Swing Against SDSU

The Game
The Omaha women's basketball team hits the road again this week, traveling to South Dakota State on Thursday, Jan. 15. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Frost Arena in Brookings, SD. Links to live stats, audio and video will be available on OMavs.com.

The Teams
Omaha (5-10, 0-3 Summit League) lost to Denver, 60-53, on Thursday, Jan. 8. It was the second straight conference road test for the Mavericks.

South Dakota State (11-6, 2-2 Summit League) split a pair of conference road games over the weekend. The Jackrabbits beat Fort Wayne, 65-64, on Saturday afternoon. IUPUI defeated SDSU, 68-67, on Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis, Ind.

Scouting the Jackrabbits
South Dakota State comes into Thursday's match-up with a record of 11-6 (2-2 Summit League). SDSU has went 2-2 in its past two Summit League games. The Jackrabbits split a pair of conference games in Indiana over the weekend.

Megan Waytashek has scored in double figures in 13 of 17 games, made at least one three-point field goal in 17 of her last 22 games. Waytashek leads the Jackrabbits in scoring with an average of 14.2 points per game. Macy Miller is second on the team in scoring with a 12.1 per game average. Mariah Clarin leads the team in rebounding averaging 6.9 boards per game and is third on the team in scoring (10.9 ppg).

The Jackrabbits are 104-20 (.838) overall in Summit League games since joining the league in 2007-08.

SDSU head coach Aaron Johnston enters Thursday's game with a 352-123 overall record and a 154-42 league mark.

  • Junior Brianna Bogard had a game-high 19 points against Denver on Jan. 8. Bogard was 6-for-17 from the floor, including four 3-pointers.
  • Senior center Taijhe Kelly had a game high 15 rebounds and blocked two shots. Sophomore Mikaela Shaw added 12 points, eight rebounds, and five assists against the Pioneers.
  • Freshman Remy Davenport led the Mavericks with 15 points off the bench against Western Illinois on Sunday, Jan. 4. Davenport was 5-for-13 from the field, including three 3-pointers.
  • Against Western Illinois, senior guard Lanese Bough had a career high 12 rebounds, while Kelly had nine rebounds and six blocked shots.
  • Shaw and Davenport each scored a game high 15 points South Dakota.
  • Shaw leads the Mavericks in scoring and rebounds this season. She averages 12.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game this season.
  • Bogard is second on the team in scoring. She is averaging 12.3 points per game.
  • Senior guard Lanese Bough leads the team in assists (64) and steals (34). Bough is also second on the team in rebounds (85).
  • Shaw has scored in double-digits 10 times this season, which is the most on the team. She has had four double-doubles this season. Shaw has scored 10 or more points in four straight games.
  • Senior center Taijhe Kelly leads the team with 39 blocked shots. Kelly has blocked four or more shots in a game five times this season.
  • Omaha is 1-3 against teams appearing in the CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25. The Mavs lost to Northern Colorado (RV), North Dakota (RV), and South Dakota (RV), but defeated #14 Bakersfield, 80-68.

The Series
Thursday's game marks the 64th all-time meeting between South Dakota State and Omaha. The Jackrabbits lead the all-time series 32-31. Last season, SDSU swept the season series from Omaha by winning 71-60 in Brookings, SD and 80-66 in Omaha, Neb.
