MACOMB, Ill. -
Tara Trede hit a two-run triple in the second inning, and
Dana Elsasser tossed her sixth straight shutout to close out her career in style in a 2-0 win at Western Illinois on Saturday.
UNO went 12-1 in the final 13 games of the season to finish 33-16 overall and 12-6 in the Summit League, good for third place in the league standings. The Mavs will be eligible for the conference tournament in the 2016 season.
Omaha had nine hits on the day but pushed across its only two runs of the game in the top of the second.
Tonya Peterson and
Lia Mancuso posted singles, and Trede brought them both home with a triple to right field.
Trede, Peterson and
Mara Eeman each had two hits to pace the Mavs.
Amber Lutmer, also playing the final game of her career, drew three walks to finish with a school-record 121 for her career.
Elsasser (27-7) made sure her last game in the circle was a memorable one. She allowed just five hits, one walk and struck out six while finishing out her career with 40 consecutive scoreless innings pitched. Her 27 wins in a season lead the Summit League and are the most by a Maverick in a season since Krista Unger's 32 in 2002.
